When the deaths from Covid reach 400K, will we still be comparing it with the flu? At what point is it no longer reasonable to make such a comparison?

And we have a flu vaccine. Is that so hard for you to understand? The only way to stop the spread of COVID 19 is to wear a mask and social distance. You are essentially saying that everybody get it so you can enjoy mid-major football regardless of how many people die. You don’t seem to care if a baby dies, because babies have died from another illness in the past. How much more selfish can you get? I’m sure if it was your child you’d be fine with them getting covid-19 and me coming up to you and saying “Hey Klake, don’t be upset. People die from an unrelated illness. Now let’s go watch EMU vs Coastal Carolina!” Get over yourself.

If it were up to me, if money were no issue, if the university's reputation and threat of getting sued weren't an issue....there'd be a football season

Just so we can get back to arguing/discussing the offensive scheme or the lack of discipline in the secondary. Football just seems to lift spirits.

Half of the Illinois deaths have been in assisted living/nursing homes. Half. Those are lives that should have been easier to protect, but it wasn't done.

Half of COIVD deaths are over 70.

https://www.pnas.org/content/117/36/22035

Instead of protecting the most vulnerable, the healthy were told and are still told to stay home.

If the risk is so great, why are the stay at home advocates fine with the essential workers taking the risk for them?

Who is going to take care of the old people? Younger people. Nursing homes can't exactly be hermetically sealed. You're complaining about not enough being done, but essentially defending people who refuse to believe that there is even a problem.

Researchers at the San Francisco VA Medical Center and UCSF did a study finding 53%
of nursing home residents died within 6 months of placement.

I love sports but at the end of the day it really is just a game. People are still learning new ways this virus can affect people even if they survive. People can survive today with HIV but do you really want to get that if you can prevent it with some small sacrifices? Hopefully, the long term effects won't be as bad but they are still doing research. We are finding better ways to be safer and life must continue but just because other groups are rushing to get back to how things used to be, everyone has different circumstances and must be prudent to do what is best for their organization.

America today reminds me of how they described Rome from the movie Gladiator.

"I think he knows what Rome is. Rome is the mob. Conjure magic for them and they'll be distracted. Take away their freedom and still they'll roar. The beating heart of Rome is not the marble of the senate, it's the sand of the Colosseum. He'll bring them death - and they will love him for it."

Hulkamania brother. It will end when it ends. There are people working round the clock to wrap this up. Let's do our best to end it and become better from this.

And 60k die annually from flu WITH a vaccine.

And 200,000 have died in 6 months without a vaccine. So you are cool with 400,000 dying in a year as long as we have MACtion. Or you could hold off a year until things are under control...but nah you need your mid-major football. You obviously can't do hard things....wait you obviously can do semi-difficult things.

Would it even surprise you if a school purposely exposed their team so they’d be 100% at the end of the year? I know that’s a crazy thought, but when millions are involved crazy becomes possible.

While the risks sound low, it’s morally wrong for adults to put kids at any unnecessary risk for financial gain. I know the kids will say they want to play, but sometimes 20 year olds need protection from themselves. The real risk is the unknown. I still haven’t read if they even know if this virus is active or latent. IMO, until we know everything possible about any virus you don’t want any part of it being in your system.

Cost of attendance for FBS schools runs about $100,000 to almost $300,000. Again college sports are optional.

This thread is just a microcosm of how the internet has warped the minds of society. Actually just brought out views and opinions labeled as fact.

Social media scares me more and more everyday in seeing what of parts society want accept and get. Most of all people I know.

Take me back to pre-internet and the glory days of Jim Jones, Marshall Applewhite and David Koresh.

At least 98.99976 % of us could agree they were insane and their conversion rate was microscopic, even for the insane and feeble minded.

Because they're expendable, at least to the "Stay at home" crowd. It's easy to cower at home in "lockdown" while the farmers are producing food, the truckers transporting it, the stores selling it, and people delivering it to their homes.
The light stay on, the water runs, first responders are out there.Society functions because there are people out there making it work.
You can protest, because that's important, but go to work? Open your business? That's irresponsible and selfish!

You believe that people trying to help end a worldwide pandemic are "cowering?"

You honestly believe the severe threat of COVID-19 is a hoax? Hasn't your man-crush repeatedly bragged that if he didn't order a lockdown 1MM to 2MM Americans would be dead?

Are you taking zero precautions (no mask, no social distancing, no reduced outings)? If not, you're a hypocrite, you're helping thin the herd for us.

Many of them have not survived. That is the point. You have to decide if football is more important than a bunch of people dying. Probably not the players, but people they come in contact with.[/b]

Healthy people have survived. We have over 5 million recover. Panmdenic paranoia. If you are not he as lthy or old, then take additional care. This is insanity
