MAC 39
Sun Belt 24
I'm kind of surprised to see the Sun Belt this low. I would also be curious to know how many of the 51 from the indies are former Notre Dame players.
Outside of Notre Dame with the independents, I expect the Sun Belt will be ahead of the MAC and Independents and possibly CUSA 5-10 years from now. Perhaps even the MWC.
In my opinion, the Sun Belt becomes the #7 conference. I think they eventually get to 14 by losing ULM and raiding CUSA of Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Marshall, UAB, and Southern Miss. I think Texas St gets quite a bit stronger.
The SBC doesn’t want to take North Texas or FAU back. They both parted on bad terms with the remaining league members.
Marshall
UAB
USM
...La Tech...would have to beg to get the votes.
Former SBC members would not be welcomed back. NT, FAU, FIU, MTSU and WKU all bolted for CUSA and then magically the SBC started improving and CUSA started to falter.

Well, here are the top ten G5 teams:
Temple ...... 20
UCF .......... 13
Houston .... 13
Wyoming ... 13
Boise ......... 12
Cincy ......... 12
Memphis .... 11
USM .......... 11
SMU .......... 10
FAU ........... 9
Surely, there isn't a perfect correlation. E.g., Temple is way out in front (last year they had 12, so quite an explosion upwards) and while they have been successful in recent years, they haven't dominated. And Wyoming and USM have not been very good either.
But the others are mostly a whose-who of the best G5 teams in recent years, so I would say that even among the G5 there is a pretty strong positive correlation between having NFL talent and performing well on the field.
We had 17 on NFL rosters last year. We have 21 right now between active and IR/Covid stuff.
EDIT: And 30-10 in the last 5 years in the AAC is pretty damn good.
