Exclamation Parameters of C-USA football championship eligibilty
According to the Houston Chronicle:
Division championship will be decided on a basis of winning percentage.

Any conference team that plays at least 1 fewer conference game than the average number of conference games played by other members participating in a fall schedule is eligible for the championship. Meaning if the average number of conference games remains as it currently is at 7, any school playing 6 or more will be eligible for the championship.

Thanks to Rice, UAB and Marshall through no fault of their own sit on the edge of remaining eligible for the championships with only 6 conference games currently scheduled. That is inexcusable and must be addressed.

Marshall and UAB should play on 11/7 to make up one of the missing games.

Now, the Rice AD is publicly doubting that either of those games will be made up. And C-USA's statement on the issue remains indifferent about moving the Championship game back a week to facilitate a make-up. Perhaps Rice should be made to forfeit those two games since the could field a team, but are choosing not to. That is very different than not being able to field a viable team, like Charlotte (at UNC).

C-USA MUST publicly issue guidelines that specifically outline what is permitted to be postponed and when a school must forfeit to prevent any further shenanigans with the schedule. They can't be trusted to handle it internally.

Guys, this is seriously f’d up. It’s not like UAB has an advantage playing less games...it’s exactly the opposite. Someone, like a USM or La Tech fan for instance, explain how this is remotely fair as it’s not under our control. UAB will have MUCH more pressure to win every conf game we play because we essentially have to go undefeated...everyone else in the West can probably afford a loss.

And I’m not even going to bother pointing out that the CUSA office hasn’t even recognized the issue in public.

I agree about the can’t-be-trusted aspect. But why “MUST” the league do anything about it? I mean, who really gives a sh¡t what C-USA does or doesn’t do? It’s not like C-USA has any reputation or credibility to preserve.

Life is unfair sometimes. Win every game and by the luck of the draw you don't play enough...it is what it is.

I don’t like the waffling happening at Rice, and do wish we would take a stand for the sake of the other schools on our schedule. If that stance resembles ODU, so be it.

But I have to point out that we’ve had three rapid-fire postponements/cancellations - Charlotte @ NC, FAU @ Georgia Southern, and now Houston @ Baylor. Programs are rolling with the punches and making it up as they go. I doubt anyone plays 7 conference games between now and the end of November.

If this were a poll, I’d vote Rice plays 0. I would have preferred they play every game possible, especially in September.

RE: Parameters of C-USA football championship eligibilty
So in layman's terms: if you play 2 games less than the avg # of conf. games played by everyone else then you're automatically ineligible for the conf. championship game regardless of your conf. winning %. Is this correct?

Also...why does Rice even have a football team?

Their fans don't care about them. Their University doesn't care about them. They should really just shut the program down for a few years...if their community really wants them back then they'll come back (like UAB).

Just so you guys know, this is CUSA at its finest.

Here you have Marshall playing on Saturday on national TV, for the chance of a top 25 ranking, could do wonders for CUSA.

And unless they are able to schedule another conference game, they cannot play for the CUSA championship, through no fault of their own.

Can't make this stuff up.

Aside from that being one of the most asinine posts on this forum, if the affected school(s) doesn't play enough it won't be "by the luck of the draw" and that's the problem, blockhead. CUSA could have done something about this by thinking ahead. They could have done something when ODU bailed. They can do something now but, being week 3 of the season, they've tied and twisted their own hands so all of the limited options available now are unpalatable to everyone.

We playing you is the easiest fix and more than palatable.

If the entire East only plays 7 games and Marshall plays 6 then would they not be eligible. They would only be 1 behind the division

That's true, but leaves us no room for error if another team gets sick.

If a conference game can't be made up then it needs to be a forfeit by the team that couldn't initially play the game. However leave it to the CUSA leadership to not have a realistic plan in place. As they could have an undefeated nationally ranked team not playing in their conference championship game. Or as brother in law would say, "they could fall into a barrel of titties on come out with a di**"
