54 new players on the team from a year ago . . . What a difference a year makes.

I was shocked when they said that. That’s crazy turnover, those kind of changes will be seem more next year then this year.

RE: TXST and ULM game thread - someone gets a win!
I was concerned about the Spav hire and I think long term the jury is still out, but Texas State did not quit in either of the last two games and they showed a lot of potential and people like to poke at ULM, but they play some solid football and have played a lot of good teams close for a number of years and they do a great deal with a great deal less than most

this had the makings of a game Texas State could have come in and gone through the motions and lost and instead they came in and played really hard and look to be ready to take home a win

a lot of games left to play, but they have a win to build on now that is a hell of a lot better than "close games" that were losses

and damn that was a hard sack

long term if Spav can have a winning season and a bowl win it could bring back some of the money donors that have been pissed at Texas State athletics for a while now and probably get a few students to start showing up more and that would really help things long term

I’d agree with that. We needed the turnover though. Think our Coaches did a great job during the off-season of bringing in talent from the transfer portal. We had sooo many needs, and the transfers have done a nice job of upgrading many of those. O line, and WR’s really stand out.

I thought Withers had some good players there was just always things that seemed to happen just about every game where it fell apart....perhaps it was simply the players (and coaching)

and that was a nice pick 6 to salt this game away

Withers recruiting classes were overrated IMO. He came in and burned the program to the ground, then tried to rebuild exclusively (for the most part) with H.S. Recruits. It just doesn’t work at this level.

I was ecstatic to see Withers leave town.

well he got off to a rough start

Fran had a lot of loyal players that did not like the change

the alumni getting publicly pissed about the hire

and as for rebuilding with HS players that was before the transfer rules kicked in and Texas does not have any major JuCo programs to go that route so he had little choice

I can understand being happy to see him go at the end because he was not going to turn it around it was always going to be the same things with games that just slipped away or something fell apart that is just what happens sometimes especially if you get off to a rough start

What I am seeing is the receivers going after the ball instead of waiting for the ball to come to them. That's been missing in the O for a very long time.

Those receivers are legit. Good game, Texas State.
