Drill, baby, drill: how a small mistake led to fracking revolution freeing USA
Interesting read on a small thing that gave America freedom from MidEast Oil and likely helped lead to Trump's opening to make theses Israeli-Arab peace deals:
linky: Breakthrough: The Accidental Discovery That Revolutionized American Energy
One day in 1997, while supervising a well in north Texas, a group of geologists made a small mistake that would help change the future of fracking.
George Mitchell is the father of the energy revolution. His impact eventually could approach that of Henry Ford. Mitchell and his team weren’t out to change history, though. They just wanted to keep their company alive.

Interesting article...kinda ended abruptly.
Fracking has been great for American energy independence. I'd like to read a non political article on the environmental costs and risks of fracking.

Well, it was the Atlantic, so they kinda went all "hate the rich innovators that help keep America free" there at the end, and then couldn't think of anything else to say. The article was from 2013, so if written today (which it probably wouldn't even appear in a pub like the Atlantic) it would have been more full-on "global warming" this and "climate change" that, oil bad (even though the article would have been typed on computer equipment or phones made out of petroleum products, carried over wires and cables with plastic shielding made from oil, etc....).
What I did appreciate about the info in the article was how it was the fact that some folks at that private company didn't listen to 'those who knew better" and because of that, they helped change America for the better and led to helping change the world by making the MidEast less a geopolitical strangle-hold on the rest of the world than it was.
Similar to our President trump, who doesn't listen to the naysayers, even those in his own party, and just does what is best for the country to be America First, not cowering, progressive globalist milquetoast placeholders. President trump has been a great manager, even if he's personally not the greatest person all the time.

But ultimately, it stayed alive because George Mitchell had a vision.
For those from Houston, George Mitchell was also the one who created The Woodlands. For those not from Houston, its a 75,000 person suburb over about 50,000 acres in the far north of Houston. It is designed to be as natural as possible and, unlike most "master planned communities," it actually did a decent job planning for its roads. The idea was to create one job within the community for every residence. It was started in the early 70s and they are still building there.
