The Big Ten is Back
No details on how many games, but an October 24 start would allow an 8 game season with no bye weeks, and a CCG on December 19. That's cutting things very close.

No bye weeks leaves no room for error or Covid.

Does Michigan have a quarantine in effect for outside visitors?

Not going to happen when players catch the virus. It is just wishful thinking to all these confernces that wants to play. Way too many players opted out of playing and others caught the virus. This season is a complete joke with games being lopsided.

Seems like the anti football folks inside the big 10 have created a nice plan to sabotage the big 10 football season. If the big 10 leadership was serious about playing football they wouldn’t have produced such a BS plan to try to play football this fall. Good plan to stop the lawsuits and that is about it

They are now saying an 8-game schedule followed by the B1G title game.

Leaves no room for error in terms of canceled or postponed games. A very tight window.

They opted out of the never-was-going-to-happen, mythical Spring season.

Yes, can't disagree with what you're saying. I just don't know how feasible this will be to complete. I'm not thrilled with this plan.

Yes, it really is precarious. Zero room for postponements if a team suddenly has a bunch of positive tests the week of a game, which is very likely to happen. Games will be canceled, period.

Yes, as Urban and Saban said, Spring football for a major conference is a pipe-dream. Sure, D3 and D2 and even FCS conferences can do it, because nobody is watching or cares. But JV football for a major conference right before the NFL draft? Crazy.

I predict that if the P5 end up canceling their Fall seasons - let's say October brings another virus resurgence - they will then announce that football will not be played again until Fall 2021. The Spring idea is now dead.

So can Minnesota and Iowa afford to restore their lost sports now, or are they still cut?

Big Ten is a bunch of chumps. All they needed to admit was they changed their minds because they needed the money

So, 8 game schedule and CFP access. This stinker worked out roses for the B1G after all.

Quote:Could the Big Ten be ready in time for the College Football Playoff?

With a late October start date, the Big Ten can still finish its season and crown a champion in time to be considered for a semifinal spot, but it has to be approved by the playoff's management committee. All 10 of the FBS commissioners and Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick would determine whether the Big Ten can rejoin the CFP. ACC commissioner John Swofford, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey and Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby will carry the most weight in the room, as they will have navigated their leagues through longer schedules. It would be difficult for them to say no, but they also probably won't be thrilled with the Big Ten playing a shortened season.

B1G Gets Fewer Games And CFP Access

I'm glad the B1G changed its mind. I want to see B1G teams playing on Saturdays.

And yes, if a team like Ohio State runs the table, they will likely get that 4th CFP spot. The dreams of the G5 are basically dead.

RE: The Big Ten is Back
Will the league go to a divisionless schedule like the ACC? And if so, will they try to make sure all the usual contenders play each other to legitimize their champ in the eyes of the CFP in light of the shorter season compared with the other P5s?

Given the costs of testing, coupled with the significant loss of revenue from ticket sales (as well as booster payments for the rights to buy those tickets), I seriously doubt it.

If we're being honest, they're almost certainly using COVID as an excuse to eliminate a few money losing sports, and will be able to still point to their lost revenues as a reason for doing this.

I'm very surprised, too, to be honest (at least in terms of actually playing in the fall). I wouldn't have been surprised if they had delayed the season until January/February, but it's quite something that they reversed course for October.

My guess is that watching a couple of weeks of football games from other conferences that have mostly gone OK gave the league a huge case of FOMO. I'm still very concerned that the COVID-19 cases are so high at a huge number of college campuses across the country, including several Big Ten schools, which could derail all of this. It's almost as if the schools are hoping for something close to herd immunity among their student populations by the end of October.
