Old dominion decision makers
You guys have one of the toughest jobs ever and I know you try to do what's right, but I think being apart from your conference and your state and even your region was a move that was really unwise. You are really rolling the dice and I hope it works out for us,but there will be a lot of fences that need fixing.

I'm a little confused with the assertion. You're suggestion ODU should have moved from Norfolk, VA in 1930 and been elsewhere and that anyone alive had anything to do with that decision? Sorry if I'm missing the point.

Sorry wrote that in a hurry.i think the decision makers at odu made a rash decision not to play football this year and break away from cusa choice to play. They will have fences to mend.

I think the real player who has "fences to mend" is Rice. Instead of cancelling ahead of the season, they're essentially just punting the decision to not play throughout the whole season.

ODU gave their conference-mates time to reschedule games and most of the teams we inconvenienced were able to replace our game (and usually with an attractive match-up). Rice is giving their conference-mates zero time to find replacements.

The bottom line is, ODU made a tough decision but made it in time for the conference to be able to respond. Now that decision may not be convenient to you politically, but ODU made the decision responsibly and I honestly don't think the conference will seriously hold that against them.

RE: Old dominion decision makers
CUSA has no issues with ODU's decision, especially in the timing in which they were notified. The only issues CUSA has with ODU (which is all "pre-COVID") is that ODU continues to showcase their displeasure at the incompetence that league's front office shows on a regular basis. In addition to that, more conference schools have become more vocal due to that ODU continues to speak up. CUSA rested on their laurels when they had a collection of good teams, and when the conference realignments started to unfold and ODU already joined, they had ZERO response once they started losing schools. They have created a front office that is comprised with individuals who are past their prime (or just over their head) in league administration, or, in the rare case, someone who is up-and-coming and needs experience, but bounces out as quickly as they can. Trust me, they have created a "vote of no confidence" for at least 4-5 schools outside of ODU. The only reason that there is no movement, is that there is no current destination. Prior to COVID, it was just a matter of time that if another "realignment" would surface, you would see another mass exodus from CUSA.

Why don’t the schools just clean house and get new folks in charge of the conference?

That's sort of what happened when the former commissioner left. I believe the current one arrived after most of the moves were made.

Current commissioner was the assistant commissioner under the former. I don't think there was much turnover.

Correct, everyone basically moved up a spot. Unfortunately, CUSA schools don't have much authority in the front office staffing. Majority are past CUSA ADs who were mediocre at best, who have always had other staffers to be the detail-oriented ones. They are basically in charge of running championship events, and all reports I've heard coming from multiple conference schools is they are a walking circus.

I mean, there seems to be universal consensus that Judy sucks. She has overseen the demise of television exposure, seen revenue evaporate, and seen CUSA drop like a rock in prestige. If the presidents recognize that, why don't they cut her loose? She works at their pleasure, right? We need a person that is an innovative thinker, a shrewd deal maker and a marketing genius in that position. Let someone else manage and execute the events.

Correct. CUSA puts both men's & women's in 1 site for ONLY 2 reasons. The site is close to the conference HQ so it's convenient to the front office staff, and they don't want to spend money for 2 separate tournaments. I would prefer you schedule the WBB tourney like the CAA, in that it's at a conference school site. They you know you can at least draw the local fans then.

I'll go one farther and say they should put both men's and women's tournaments on campuses.

Generally, I'm not a fan of holding the men's tournament on someone's campus, but the lack of fan interest in this conference all but requires it if you want an atmosphere worthy of a D1 basketball conference tournament.

Or at least in a city where a CUSA school is located. Charlotte or Nashville are really the only ones that make sense unless you rotate places
