Should the Cajuns be ranked #1?

Sounds crazy, but agree with his logic! He also has Arkansas State and CCU in his top 10!

ULLLLLLLL had an absolutely awesome win Saturday and most certainly deserves to be ranked, but they have a mountain(eers)-sized hump to get over to be ranked that high.

I don't think the guy is saying that UL projects as the best team in the nation. He's just saying that, based on the actual quality of resume THIS YEAR, they have the best resume in the country. I'm not sure I completely agree but I do see his point. This is great publicity for the SBC so I'm not complaining. This kind of recognition sets up a potential HUGE game when UL comes to App next month. Hopefully both teams stay unbeaten until then because a game between two ranked SBC teams is HUGE!

GO APPS!

Perceptually SBC is perceived to be way lower than Big 12, SEC etc.. We have just had 3 Sunbelt teams that beat Big 12 teams. If Kansas, Iowa State, and Kansas State have good seasons, does that make them better than ASU, UL, and CCU? According to wins we have had this weekend you would have to go with no, because the SBC is considered to be a weaker conference and team out the Big 12 and SEC will always get a nod over any Sunbelt school.

We can have a team that goes 12-0, 5 yrs in a row and never get into the college playoffs

The B1G uncancelling is looking like it's inevitable and there's hints the Pac-12 may follow. Who knows if we'll keep our teams in the AP poll.

I like the reasoning, but it's not realistic. I don't think Louisiana is realistically better than Alabama or Clemson, so they shouldn't be #1.

Whatever the case the Sun Belt is enjoying a fun start to the season. No one could have predicted this much media attention just a short time ago. Does this have any impact on our ESPN relationship going forward? They've certainly gotten their moneys worth.

Earned for certain but earned or created by the circumstance makes no difference at this point. Great decisions hard work and being in the right place at the right time have taken this conference from being alone at the very bottom and on the brink of being dissolved to thriving waaay beyond anyone's wildest expectations. And we've just been given an excellent new venue we haven't even enjoyed yet. 04-cheers

I'm a Cajun fan, and even I realize this is crazy talk.

My bigger concern is how the return of the B1G is going to eff over our newly won national ranking.

The Cajuns should be ranked. They soundly beat a ranked team. Think we will see more wins in this fashion and we should love everyone of them.. You don't see SEC fans talking down a team after one of their own has kicked another's tail. Some SBC fans instead of talking up a win will minimize the opponent. A State fan posted on our board that K-State was terrible. Don't understand, particularly when they have very good athletes and I think will have a winning season.

Of course we aren’t the best team in the country, I think he is just looking at it from a merit perspective which is a different way to look at it. a lot of teams in the P5 are ranked year after year off of what they have been the last 50 years not what they actually are today. Texas is a prime example, they recently have been ranked preseason top 25 following losing seasons, that’s being ranked simply because their name is Texas. Again we aren’t close to being the number one team but his merit based perception is a refreshing point of view and would be cool going forward with or without the Cajuns involved. I do think we will see this year that a lot of teams are more evenly matched than people think when you are basically playing on a neutral field (empty stadiums)

If I was an AP pollster, I would only vote for teams that have played a game. In that case, I would probably put Louisiana 3rd. I'd also have App, A State, and Coastal in my Top 25.
