I totally disagree with Odom. If anything, I'd move the three point line back even FARTHER. At least to NBA distance.......or I'd get rid of the three point shot entirely. It's ruined college basketball ever since it's inception.

If you've ever stood on a regulation floor and stood by the three point arc, you know that the shot is nothing.......it's an easy three for any team that can halfway shoot (that doesn't include US, of course... :crying: ).

I don't think widening the lane will make a difference.......but if they could de-emphasize the three pointer.......it would force teams to play a better, more sound brand of basketball, both defensively and offensively.

Without the three point shot - I wouldn't enjoy college bball as much Gal - I see your point, but to me it would be more boring. Just MHO.

Well, I remember the days before the three point line very, very well. Some of the best games I saw took place without it......besides the McGuire years......Michigan state-Indiana State........NC State Houston........etc.

The three point line has cheapened basketball. There's no strategy. Just pass in and out of the post, wait for the double down....and then gun the three.

I don't have any problem with the three-point shot per se. But it needs to be moved back - the further the better. Make that shot worth three points.

Gal, I disagree with you 100% on the 3 point shot ruining baskeball, however, I agree with you 100% that the arc should be moved back to the NBA distance. I would equate this with the NCAA narrowing the goal posts & removing the tee for FG's & extra points a la the NFL a few years ago.

I just miss the days when teams actually had to work for a shot, instead of just waiting for double teams so they can get someone open for a three. Other factors have contributed to the way the game is played today, but I think the three is a big part of it.

But move the three to NBA distance and I'm happy. It's like Dickie V said once, college basketball and the NBA need to get together and do what's BEST FOR THE GAME. Get on the same page and create the same rules.........or at least make them similar. They don't have to be EXACTLY alike, because I realize that wouldn't work (such as the NBA's shorter shot clock). But at least get together on the three point line, defense, jump balls and some of the basics.

just curious gal, would that include doing away with zone d in college hoops? i agree on moving the 3 line back to nba range... heck, its only what.... 3 more feet? but that, as KW says, makes the 3 WORTH 3!

The game's allure and excitement is mainly because of three main things IMO. Dunks, Defense, and the Three Point Shot. Take one of them away and it's not going to be as exciting.

If the game is boring now it is only due to the watered down, skill-less talent that the NBA has also been accused of. It also explains how the powers of bball can be upset on any given night by Team Nike and in our case, Coppin State.
