Does not mean that they are still carrying the bug to give it to others. Some people caught the virus twice in less than 6 months.

With the new antigen surveillance test that is being rolled-out, I believe that there will be more frequent testing of athletes. It will provide results in 15 minutes...but my understanding is that positive antigen results will then require the full current PCR test to confirm COVID.

The point being, the technology and processes are advancing rapidly. So long as athletics has enough funding to be at the cutting-edge, they can be safety conscious.

Lot of misinformation with immunity. Antibodies do disappear, but strong evidence t-cells still recognise the virus and prevent any serious re-infection. It even appears prior infections (possibly from other coronaviruses) give the same effects and a large number of people have been infected with those. This was actually out of credible sources months ago, but doesn't seem to gain much traction in the news.

I can't imagine that the long term effects for most healthy 18-22 year olds is worse than repeated blows to the head and other injuries suffered on the filed. As long as everyone is aware with what they're signing up for and wants to play then I say power to them. And I say this as someone who has generally been pro shutdown and pro mask and thinks that the US could be doing a lot better.

Liability. Even having the players sign waivers is not ironclad in court.

I would say it still is, despite the risk of spreading infection due to close contact with teammates.

These guys are closely monitored, have access to superior health facilities and are tested frequently.

The downside is that once 1 team member is infected, its likely to spread to the whole team that hasn't already been infected.

The good news is other than very extreme and rare circumstances, these guys are at ~0 risk, can be isolated and treated, and return to normal life in 14 days.

I don't believe there is a definitive belief in the medical community that there is zero risk of these players still being able to infect someone else during that timeframe. While that seems to be the common thinking, there is still a lot to learn about this particular virus. How much more expensive could it be to continue to test these players weekly instead of daily?

There is little to no evidence that immunity continues for any length of time.

For the people beating the we aren’t sure about immunity drum, I have to ask what the end game is? If getting the virus doesn’t give immunity for a significant period of time, how will a vaccine produce immunity. The whole no proof of long term immunity crowd is actually saying let’s get back to normal because were stuck with covid 19 forever
