they won't survive week 4, if they even managed to outlast week 3. I think there were at least three games that probably broke the one-million-viewer mark, and possibly even 2-3 more

5 games didn't survive week 3.

I suspect next week this will look real different.

Agreed. Those numbers are so low that the SEC may take over half of the top 10 immediately; if they don't, it's only because of great numbers from the ACC and/or Big XII this week.

Of those, the one I am most interested in watching is Mississippi State @ LSU. It's a rivalry for one thing, but it will also be interesting to see how LSU looks after having lost so much talent, and how M-St looks under Mike Leach.

that may have something to do why CBS picked it for their game. totally agree with you.

I forgot Leach is the head coach of Miss St. Now I am more interested in seeing how his offense style will play out.

Sun Belt dominating 2020 tv ratings just like we all expected at the end of 2019.

I like the fact that the Sunbelt is doing very well. We've had very humble origins, but now we are finally showing why it isn't wise to sleep on us!!!

Also, it shows that, love 'em or hate 'em, ESPN knows how to broadcast and market college football. The SunBelt's tv numbers show me why it isn't wise to leave out ESPN as a broadcast partner, as C-USA did. I understand why C-USA did it (ESPN'S game selection and broadcast times were adversely affecting stadium attendance numbers), but C-USA could have played it's cards a little better (BeIN was a complete disaster for C-USA).

I have great memories of the Sun Belt when it was a tight-knit hoops conference in the 1980s. There was a lot of geographic disparity, almost a thousand miles between my USF and the two Virginia schools, but we were all in the "Sun Belt" region as it was called then and there was strong unity nonetheless. The basketball, in its own minor way, was kind of like the Big East of that same time period, everyone was kind of a rivalry with everyone - USF, Jacksonville, USA, UAB, WKU, VCU, ODU, UNCC, the names still roll right off my tongue.

So I always wish the Belt well even though we left almost 30 years ago.

Kind of suprised Game Day is at the MIami-FSU game as FSU is a dumpster fire.

And why on earth ABC picked ECU-UCF to fill that open slot is boggling.

If it wasn’t UCF-ECU, it was GSU-Louisiana or GSU-Charlotte. UCF’s hot brand made that game a shoo-in.

"Hot Brand"? 03-lmfao

They couldn't have taken one of the other Disney games, like Florida/Ole Miss or Pitt/Louisville and moved them to that slot?

Moving Florida/Ole Miss to ABC is illegal and ACCN needs maximum inventory until all carriage disputes are settled.

UCF is a hot brand...which is why ABC is picking them for the second week in a row. 3M for UCF/GT was a reliable number, so ABC knows they can dip right back to UCF in an emergency for a respectable rating. Notre Dame - one of the nation’s elite draws - drew 4.3M for its NBC afternoon game.

That was 3M for UCF vs a P5 team. GT probably had more to do with it.

This was UCF vs ECU.

Week 4 ratings: https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2020/09...-cbs-espn/

The headline: "SEC’s return not that great in the ratings".

Mississippi State-LSU was the "highest rating and viewership of the college football season" but "Overall, Saturday’s game averaged fewer viewers than 12 of last year’s 16 SEC on CBS windows." It's what happens when you choose a Mississippi State game. I don't care if it was an upset, if people aren't watching the game at the beginning the ratings will be down.

Alabama's night game ratings were terrible ("Tide’s least-watched night game since a 2017 matchup with Colorado State on ESPN2) but that was because they were competing with LeBron and the Stanley Cup.

Big 12 on FOX?
"Kansas State’s competing upset of Oklahoma on FOX averaged a 1.6 and 2.68 million (itself down 48% and 43% respectively from a 3.1 and 4.73 million for Michigan-Wisconsin last year)."

"FSU-Miami ranked second among week four college football games behind Mississippi State-LSU. Third-place went to Texas-Texas Tech on FOX, which at a 1.55 and 2.72 million ranks as the season’s highest rated and most-watched Big 12 game."

Tell me why the Big 12 deserves a big contract when Oklahoma and Texas can't even get 3 million viewers unless they play each other. Texas got fewer viewers than Florida State/Miami (1.6 and 2.95 million). Speaking of Oklahoma/Texas, I see low ratings for this years games with the two teams sucking. I'm more interested in Florida/Texas A&M this Saturday. Wouldn't it be an embarrassment if UF/A&M outdraws OU/UT?

Big Ten football can't get here soon enough.

OU/KSU outdrew Florida/Ole Miss in same time slot. Texas/Texas Tech w/o Leach did not beat the defending champs vs. Mike Leach.

Texas and OU draw very well. Big 10's top teams draw well too. But so far this year not a single viewer has watched a Big 10 game. So the CUSA is stomping the Big 10 in ratings!

Mississippi St drew the highest ratings of the college football season. OU/KSU won its timeslot beating out Florida/Ole Miss. Texas/Texas Tech got the third highest ratings of the week, behind only the CBS and ABC games of the week.

Not sure how MSU or XII ratings could be spun negative. Those are all good ratings.

"Highest ratings" of a given week mean nothing when every rating is low. 2.5/4.44M is low by CBS on SEC ratings standards. The game "averaged fewer viewers than 12 of last year’s 16 SEC on CBS windows." Could the low ratings be COVID-19 related? Probably. But I'll bet it Mississippi State related and Texas A&M/Alabama will trounce it because Texas A&M is from a way more populous state and Alabama's Alabama and unless CBS is dumb enough to air another game involving an Egg State team they won't have any rating lower than this game this season.

Sure overall ratings are lower because of COVID and the quality of games hasn't been as good yet. We have some better games upcoming. Also, traditionally college football interest does peak later in the season. By the end of the season, the ratings this week will probably look pathetic by comparison.

It means those are the most valuable games of the week. That's a good thing.

Looks like UGA vs Auburn drew 4.22 million and Oklahoma vs Iowa State drew 3.77 million. These would crack the Top 10.
