RE: 2023 Offense Analysis vs 2022 Fordham
FWIW- Grant was a 3 star as well and would probably light it up at the lower level.
Im assuming they have a different offense since the OC left?

RE: 2023 Offense Analysis vs 2022 Fordham
Id think one of the biggest difference is Fordham had one of the very best QBs in all of FCS last season. We dont have a QB of that caliber. A lot of mistakes can be covered by having a great QB. For example, Taylor Heinike made BW look like a genius. In retrospect, the best thing that could have happened to us was if BW had been able to parlay that "success" into the job he accepted at FAU.

Its funny that people say things like that to support whatever viewpoint they want to push.
If they like the coach, the coach finds gems and develops them
If they dont like the coach, the player made the coach look good

Apparently the same offense, or at least similar.
The new OC, Art Asselta, was promoted from WR coach at Fordham.

Maybe we should have hired him also. Just in case he was the real brains behind this offense. It definitely needs to operate better than it is now.

That is always difficult to ascertain when you are on the outside looking in, but certainly not unprecedented.
In any event, Asselta's record with WRs both at Fordham and at different programs is impressive.

You also have to consider what he has to work with. They inherited a terrible offense and had to replace the 2 best playmakers, the starting LT, and an NFL RT. Despite that, our offense is way better than last year and actually putting up points. Give him some time

I have no opinion on Decker one way or the other. He's brand new, and the O is definitely better than last year. But the discussion was why hasn't it translated here this season. It could very easily be that he had (or maybe developed) better talent at key offensive positions, mainly QB. It will be interesting to see what happens with the O next season since I assume Decker will be involved in recruiting his guys. Regarding BW and Heinike, nobody at ODU should take a ton of credit for developing Taylor. That kid got here with the goods and was a star from the day he stepped on the field.

We were also able to support TH with NFL caliber receivers.
I like the design of this offense, especially since the run game is featured more than in the Heinicke era, and its a good rushing game.
What we don't [YET] have are the developed and experienced players at QB and WR.
Decker only came on board at the end of December.
The scheme is good. We just need to develop or bring in players, and it may be that we have what we need, and just need time.

I'll add this, this offense is also really fun to watch, WHEN ITS WORKING. The sacks and lack of short yardage ability is very frustrating, but that could improve with the right players. If we get to the point that the O is working well much more often, I think it could be a very exciting style to watch (assuming we win).
