The 2007ish study that was commissioned found like 7 sites that were on or adjacent to the main campus that were viable. Commercial development in the adjacent space will have changed that somewhat, but it is still possible to put a stadium on the main campus.

The golf course or south campus are no better than the liberty bowl.

The Leary Report was commissioned by the OCS crowd and grossly misrepresented the facts to push for an OCS.

They point at Louisville as an example of a new stadium but leave out key details.

First Louisville was playing in a minor league baseball stadium and had a losing season.

Louisville had changed coaches the first year in the new stadium and the home crowds at the start of the season were about the same as the previous year.

Louisville hosted the governor's cup game that year against Kentucky which increased the average.

Louisville team was winning and the crowds did NOT drop off late in the season as it had in the past when they were losing.

It was the team winning and not the stadium which was responsible for the increase in attendance.

What many forget is that just because the footprint of a stadium will fit in a certain area does not mean that the infrastructure is in place for the stadium.

Electrical lines, water lines, gas lines and sewage will all have to be increased.

Not to mention the residential areas surrounding the south campus.

The one exit that will be available onto getwell could not begin to handle the traffic flow if by chance you had enough parking spots.

Even if traffic moved at the theoretical maximum(1,900 cars per hour per lane) you would be looking at at least 4 hours to move traffic out of the stadium after a game.

You know it will not move at maximum so a full stadium could see 6 to 8 hours of traffic jams.

On the main campus sites are no better when it comes to post game traffic flows.

Main campus traffic flow is at least as good as the LB now. Flow traffic north on Highland and east on poplar from the central lot. Flow people south on Highland or east on park from the southern lot.

there are two exits onto Getwell and one that lets out on Park if you turn or Goodlett if you go straight.

Realign Zach Curlin east to the property line, demolish 2 obsolete dormitory buildings, and there is plenty of room to build whatever you want.

You'd probably have to integrate some housing/teaching space into either/both buildings to really make it make sense but I think its fun to think about. The idea of a gameday actually on campus is pretty cool to think about. I always wished we could keep the ellipse intact which could turn into Tiger Lane v2.0. A tiger fan can dream right?!

Right, think that's the difference between Loserville, USA, etc. Their off campus stadiums were on their last legs compared to the LB. Ladd-Peebles was a heap 10 years ago and from what you read the stadium at the fairgrounds in Loserville wasn't much better. UM really needs to focus on having a transportation system/infrastructure/greenway type setup to make it feel more like the LB is part of campus. Went to Oregon for a game and it was probably a 20-30 min walk from tailgate but you were walking through campus and over a river so it didn't feel like a pain. Not an easy answer but IMO something that could really flip the LB to feel more like an on campus stadium. Just for the record I am absolutely for an OCS but I understand the limitations (resources, land, etc) the admin is dealing with.

Additionally, our major revenue producing sports are off campus, which hampers the university’s fundraising ability. There is a complete lack of connectedness between our school and its alumni base because most have no reason to step back onto campus. The university’s alumni giving percentage has traditionally been abysmal.

Coming back to campus is only limited to those who are only interested in sports. There is a significant calendar of events that provide the opportunity to be engaged and entertained or enlightened. Music, art, theater, lectures, volunteer and service, department events, alumni events.

Some colleges have a community that is built around being close and part of the University. Retirement communities with programming built specifically to engage that age group. Broad discounted continuing education or discounted for credit classes for seniors.

But I get your point. Sports is the most productive draw back to campus if facilities are here to draw them.

When you say "maximize revenues", all I can see is my ticket prices doubling.

But I totally agree about the lack of connectivity.
