Sun Belt Rankings - Week 2
Louisiana definitely appears to be the team to beat this year!

As much as I want App to run the table, if that doesn't happen it'll be good for the conference to have some parity in the top level of the league

RE: Sun Belt Rankings - Week 2
Probably about to ruffle some feathers, here:

1. App State (sorry, they're #1 until anyone proves otherwise)
2. Louisiana (best outside of App until anyone proves otherwise)
3. Ark State (they were the #3 team last year and beat K State, so who else is #3?)

4. Coastal Carolina (not because of their win, because I already liked them before the season started)
5. South Alabama

6. Georgia Southern (basically playing well below the FCS scholarship ceiling with abrupt disqualifications. Sorry, but I don't think most teams in the league are looking great in those circumstances).
7. Texas State
8. Troy (With what they lost on offense last season I think it could be a rough year unless they improve that D a lot)

9. Georgia State (offense has major losses, D wasn't great last season, State hasn't been good on rebuilding years)
10. ULM (same as Georgia State)

Every year I get criticized for not being too knee-jerk after early results but more often than not things are closer to where they were the last couple of years than what they appear to be after the first game.

RE: Sun Belt Rankings - Week 2
1. Louisiana (Likely going to be ranked this week themselves)
2. App State (Wasn't pretty at times, but the Mountaineers are at the top until someone knocks them off)
3. Arkansas State (There are still some issues, but down 9 starters, that was an impressive win)
4. Coastal Carolina (Good luck getting that return trip from Kansas next season)
5. Troy (Without a game played yet, I don't really know what to do with them)
6. Georgia Southern (Hard to judge a game when you are missing half your team)
7. Georgia State (See Troy)
8. South Alabama (Oh what could have been. A win yesterday and they are top 5)
9. Texas State (0-2. but the Cats have played both of their opponents close)
10. UL Monroe (I'm not sure they belong here, but between Covid and the Army game, not an ideal start to the season)

Sun Belt Rankings - Week 2
I don’t care that we were missing 33 players, we still should have dominated that team. They lost the game more than we won the game. We should be last until we prove otherwise.

I will say I wish we had their qb.

They told a story during the game about how Georgia Southern really wanted him, but Campbell offered him the chance to be more of a throwing QB which he wanted to be.

I’d put App third after this week. I view this as a power ranking and ULL is clearly first, Ark St second.

Not saying this is how things will look at the end of the season, but just based on these first couple weeks. Leaving Georgia State and Troy out until they play.

1) Louisiana
2) Arkansas State
3) Coastal Carolina
4) App State
5) South Alabama
6) Texas State
7) Georgia Southern
8) ULM

Of course. Just like all the other time we've been down 30+ scholarship players and waxed teams.

RE: Sun Belt Rankings - Week 2
I’ll give App the benefit of the doubt because of the rain. I’ll give GS some benefit of the doubt because they had 33 players out. I probably should give ULM some benefit of the doubt because they’ve been hit with a lot recently. The jury is out on Troy and GSU and we will see what they look like this weekend. With that said, these are my rankings as of now:

1. Louisiana
2. App State
3. Arkansas State
4. Coastal Carolina
5. South Alabama
6. Georgia Southern
7. Texas State
8. ULM

TBD - Troy & Georgia State

RE: Sun Belt Rankings - Week 2
1. ULL - dominating a ranked team makes this a no-brainer
2. App - didn't show a whole lot against UNCC, but being so good in recent years will get you a bump in an early ranking
T3. StAte - tough loss to Memphis but a great win at Kansas State
T3. Coastal - dominated Kansas in their house in the 1st half
5. USA - definitely an improvement over recent years, but choked vs Tulane
6. TXST - 2 close losses to in-state foes, also improved over recent years
7. GS - when they get players back, they'll improve
8. ULM - when they can actually prepare for a game for more than 2 days, they'll improve
N/A. GSU - no games yet
N/A. Troy - no games yet

Call me a homer, but I agree with this. Louisiana is 0-8 against App State. I'll believe they're better when I see them win against App.

The rest seem pretty on the money, too.

RE: Sun Belt Rankings - Week 2
Here's the ultimate thing with App:

Until someone knocks them off the top, they will always be seen as the best team in the conference. Does that mean that at every point they are the best team? No. App has always shown they have the ability to have a couple bad games, and they can certainly lose a league game. It's just until this point, the teams seen as their biggest challenge at the top have not beaten them.\

With App/UL, its entirely possible that App is in the Cajuns head a bit. That series has reminded me a lot of the AState/ULM series. Its been one sided even when every metric says it shouldn't be.

We are finally hitting a point after 6 years in the league where App and AState should play each other regularly, so we'll get a better read on that series, but otherwise App's biggest struggle has been Georgia Southern. Do I think eventually someone else will step up and start to win some games? Yeah. But until they do, App gets to keep the top.

In terms of Sun Belt Dominance though, the history says that we are nearing a point where another program should win it for a while...teams seem to dominate on 3-4 year levels, but usually drop a peg eventually when coaching changes and attrition take hold.

This. While in the stands I saw a team that was dealt probably the worst hand right before the game and still didn’t give up. Lots of young players that were thrown right into the shark tank vs man sized upperclassmen. I’ve seen teams that give up and know what they look like. This isn’t one of them and we’ll benefit in the long run from the experience the youngsters got. The ugly games you win make you champs not the blowouts. Not only that but it was probably the hottest damn game I’ve been to anywhere in any sport. Thank god for Tito’s, Cranberry, and Lime otherwise I would’ve needed a stretcher too
