Big 10 Fall Football
If the Big Ten decides in the next couple days to start up in October, any chance the MAC follows suit? Try to play an 8-9 game schedule? Or are we gonna stay on the non playing island by ourselves? Seems like the majority of players, coaches, parents, and fans would prefer to at least give fall football a shot

I don't think that the Group of 5 schools have the financial resources to test the players the amount of times that would be needed to be safe. The tests have to get cheaper for this to happen.

Plus, without the big money games, it would not make sense for the MAC to play with virtually no money coming in. I respect the MAC’s decision.

Huge mistake to not play by the BIG 10, politics dominated decision. Will adversely affect brand for some time. ...not as serious about football as we are in the Texas or the South.

Let's give it a couple weeks before we declare this a success. There has been 1 Saturday of games and college campuses are new epicenters for COVID. It is kind of reminding me of when Florida and Texas opened up early and some were taking a victory lap.....then a wave of COVID cases hit the south.

The one positive for the G5 teams that are playing is that they are getting prime time TV slots that they wouldn’t have been able to touch during a normal season.

It's a success right now and I say that believing some games will be cancelled in Oct & Nov.

It's a bad flu for college kids. Hope a bunch of kids get it and whip it's a$$., build immunity. Just don't come home, stay at school. Don't need to visit grandma and fat Uncle Harry.

People filled with hate have it so easy. They don't need to know or think, they can just feel.

Everything you write is false.

The B1G's decision wasn't simply about "politics." You can't "whip COVID-19's ass" and build immunity. Many people who get it aren't recovering (they are suffering long-term damage) and the antibodies for some people who "recover" only last 2-4 weeks.

This is just one of hundreds of articles on the subject.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/13/health/lo...index.html

Here's another, specifically about B1G athletes.

https://www.usnews.com/news/health-news/...yocarditis

Dozens of studies have been pouring in regarding the long-term health damage caused by COVID-19, and one of the B1G's deciding factors was the fact that 1/3 of their athletes who "recovered" from COVID-19 the heart condition myocarditis.

They are reconvening (possibly today) to study more medical information that we've learned during the past few weeks (since their decision).

If you mean that Midwesterners aren't as "serious about football" as a state that produced George Bush and, until recently, allowed alcohol and firearms in a moving vehicle, then, yes, we don't think using college kids as lab monkeys for our entertainment is "serious football."

BTW, have you been seeking to expose yourself to the virus so you can "whip it's ass and build immunity?" Oh, and because you're not a Socialist, once you get it, you won't ask for access to our healthcare facilities, medicines, workers and insurance, correct?

You're more arrogant than you are intelligent.

Save your sanctimonious lectures for somewhere else, where your obvious genius intellect is more appreciated.

RE: Big 10 Fall Football
Didn't think I'd see it, but the B1G appears ready to surrender to the pressure.

They'll say it was due to some convenient medical and testing breakthroughs over the past four weeks. But they've heard so much flak from players, parents, million-dollar coaches and politicians, that they're waiving the white flag. Add some major FOMO and they'll be jumping back into the pool.

Sad reality is a lot of our own MAC alumni is likely begging for football... but not for our conference.

Motown it was a business decision. They have their own network and the schools have budgets to manage. Their brand is taking a hit.

RE: Big 10 Fall Football
If the Big Ten votes to play this fall the MAC might want to allow its members to play nonconference games this fall. That way MAC schools could play a couple of paycheck games that would pay for all their other sports as well as a spring conference football schedule. I'm assuming the MAC would still have to push its conference season to spring because they would need time to actually receive the funds from paycheck games and acquire necessary testing apparatus for football and other sports. Playing games in fall and again in spring is unusual, but North Dakota State is doing it and others might too. Desperate times. Pushing the bulk of the season to spring would also give the MAC more time to see if these new testing protocols actually work.

Big 10 in realizing they made a big mistake. SEC , ACC and others are thriving. I do understand, some of the schools in Big 10, are not as financially stable as other power 5 teams

Would hate to see the Pig10 play right in our own backyard while our MAC teams sit out. Not digging the optics if it. Thank god the Pac12 still appears to be sitting out, looks like less of a class divide and more of a moral choice.

Thanks again China.

Brett McMurphy reported he heard the conference will either all play or all sit out.

If it ever came to pass that UM and MSU didn’t play and the rest of the conference did... oh my. Not to pile in the politics, but Trump will tweet-blame our governor daily (even though she has no say in it). Michigan’s a huge battleground state.
