This conference is definitely now firmly entrenched as one of the top 2-3 conferences in the Group of 5. The scary thing is the SBC gets better every year. We have literally left C-USA and the MAC in the dust. Lookout MWC and AAC, the Belt is coming up fast!
BTW, To even think that the SBC could possibly have 2 ranked teams a few years back would have made you seem crazy.. but it could happen this week. I hope it does!
Fun little research project, I did it a few years ago but don't have the exact numbers any more.
Look at each departee's record in conference games only their final two years of Sun Belt play, then look at their record in conference play only in their first two years of CUSA play. It's quite enlightening as to the difficulty of schedule.
Simply put, considering how close the Sun Belt came to disappearing in 2012, we absolutely made the correct decisions in expansion. Of the 5 programs we added (Not counting UTA since they are non football) There have been a litany of P5 wins, several conference championships, national television appearances, a top 25 ranking, and a lot of bowl wins, and that's getting essentially done by 4 of the 5 schools since Texas State is still recovering from Self inflicted wounds.

We haven’t to my knowledge. In fact, I believe we are the only ones to finish the season ranked (2014) in CUSA 3.0. FAU could have finished rank over the last few years but I honestly can’t remember.
I was mainly stopping in to say congrats a huge weekend. You have to have weekends like that to make any headway in college football as far as perception goes. I honestly hate that we are playing App State this weekend because I would love to see both schools go undefeated. However, a few people have brought up the possibility of the game being moved up to fill CBS 3:30 spot. That would be pretty huge for both teams, especially if both teams play well and it’s a competitive game that stays really close until the end.
A lot of people call me a crazy conspiracy theorist, but I want to note that the Sun Belt could conceivably catch the MW in perception in the next couple years. The MW made a huge mistake going with FOX and leaving ESPN. I’ve all but decided ESPN is like the mafia, your either with them or against them haha. P5 conferences like the Big 10 don’t need them, but the G5 conferences need their backing. They can control the perception of conferences through their talking heads, and the Sun Belt made a great decision going all in with them.

Many spit balls came Karl Benson's way while commiss of the Belt. I personally didn't care for him based on his attitude in 2014 when we entered and swept the conference. He may well get a statue somewhere when it's all said and done. At some point we have to consider luck can only get you so far. Fella knocked the frign cover off the ball. Cheers to Benson bad as I hate to say it. We're in a good spot.

It would be even better if anyone knew who the new commissioner of the SBC was!!! He is apparently taking a page out of Biden's campaign and staying in his basement!
Biggest weekend in SBC football history just finished and has anyone heard or read anything from the Commissioner?

Tempered given the circumstance is understandable but from a national exposure standpoint these are unprecedented times. We've been given an opportunity and prepared for it. Maybe a thank you to our players and fans would be sufficient at the moment. Maybe a recap of the previous two weeks being on the national stage and how thankful we are for their effort and support. You can find the words...

Mohajir was too busy headbutting Jay Adams to make any positive statements on behalf of the league...sorry.
The Sun Belt's Twitter account did seem to notice what happened though.

Jay head butted him. Even TMo isn't nuts enough to initiate a head butt without a helmet
Commissioners don't
- Hire/fire coaches
- Handle recruiting
- Plan and pay for facilities
- Make OOC schedules
- Vote on expansion
No matter how good of a negotiator you are the TV guys know more about what you are worth than the commissioner. It wasn't the commissioners fault that Fox walked away from CUSA.
Success and failure rests on the member schools. It always has and it's never been about the jersey patches.
