We are getting a lot of reports of players tested positive for the coronavirus that leads to games being postponed or canceled. We can post all the news here and update it. I read there are 12 games this weekend that got canceled or postponed.

Louisiana Tech-Baylor
FIU-Central Florida and
Marshall-East Carolina

I think FIU decided to push back the start of their season a while back. The other two are due to current outbreaks

NEW GAME: Houston at Baylor 9/19 (12 ET/11 CT on Fox)

Louisiana Tech at Baylor moves from POSTPONED to CANCELLED. La Tech adding OOC game? Unknown. East Carolina might need a game since with Rice's delayed start it's unlikely the Marshall-ECU game will be able to be rescheduled. However, if DavidSt's rumors about Rice cancelling the season turn out to be true, maybe the Herd and Pirates will play after all.

BYU at Army 9/19 is POSTPONED. Some positive tests with the Cougars. They have mutual off days 11/28 and 12/5. The former is more likely as I'm guessing Army will prefer a bye week before facing Navy.

This is awesome. They scheduled this game on the fly, and it's going to be on national TV! This what high school coaches have been doing in Texas lately: scheduling games on a moment's notice.

Meanwhile, the Houston-Memphis game will be rescheduled for a later date. The AAC is allowing their schools to schedule up to 4 non-conference games, so there is room built in the schedule for UH to pick up the extra game.

It's a strange season.

This is awesome. Baylor and Houston haven't played in 25 years, since the last season of the SWC, the year Baylor moved on to the Big 12 and Houston was left behind.

Amazing how during normal times ADs will say it takes months or even years to schedule games but they were able to do this like in 10 minutes? 03-lmfao

Hopefully, we will see more of these last-minute games to fill in gaps created by covid.

Most of the time scheduling is held back by the following:

1. Need for home games.
2. Need for appropriate games that can be used as tune-up, not as a potential loss, or if you are a G5 needed for creating a stronger schedule and getting national attention to the program.
3. Need to honor existing agreements. Many schedules are filled out nearly a decade in advance. Some call for multiple games, be it a 2-for-1 set-up or ongoing series (SMU-TCU/FSU-Florida, etc.) This can rapidly fill the schedule out.
4. TV dollars. This can result in games getting moved to a neutral site or added to the schedule at the expense of an existing matchup.
5. FOMO. Fear of missing out causes programs to rush out and grab the most desirable matchup possible, as soon as possible, and creates a rush to get schedules filled.

I think it is dumb that so many games get scheduled so far in advance. Particularly when SOS is so emphasized in this day and age and there is no guarantee the team you scheduled 7-10 years ago is going to remain a strong team, or a weak team. It makes more sense IMO to limit scheduling to three years out if it isn't an ongoing non-con series. Houston, along with the other former SWC teams, is a team that should be a permanent rotating schedule for Baylor's non-con. I'm glad to see them on the schedule this year, and I hope the Bears are competitive in their first game under Aranda.

And what do you know - just like that, Houston @ Baylor is FOX's "Big Noon Kickoff" game.

Big Noon Kickoff for a SWC game. Doesn’t get much better than that.

SWC at 11 am. They should bring back Raycom to televise it.

Raycom is still subcontracting a few games for Sinclair RSNs. I'm sure they'd be willing to take on one more job.

Only if the Syracuse Pitt game gets moved from the ACC Network to Raycom too.
