When comparing JMU to these others they have the fallback of a conference who forged ahead. Can you imagine if JMU forged ahead with a schedule that included Georgia State Charlotte etc kept diligently testing and practicing only to have these games cancelled the week of. It’s one thing if as a G5 you can fall back on the fact that your conference is playing you’ll have some conference games maybe a conference championship and a bowl at the end of it. If you are JMU what’s your upside- no playoff, no conference title - just for pride and the opportunity to knock someone off.

Don’t get me wrong I would have loved to see it and for that opportunity but I get why they opted out. The reality is that there have been a fair number of games cancelled or postponed due to Covid.

“this season will be canceled everywhere, across the board”

Dukeman2 I can’t Find that quote. On 8/10/2020 I just made a joke that you were a mush whenever you post anything about ODU being ahead of JMU because I think that may have been the date they tapped out. I questioned the viability of the G5 leagues playing but I never proclaimed that the season would be cancelled across the board but who really cares. Just pointing out that I don’t think I ever said that quote that you’ve attributed to me. I’ll wait for you to correct me and show me where I did and if I did I’ll own it.

"JMU will be the only team not playing football in the fall. They will claim the Spring Championship after being the only school playing a spring football season."

Just closing the loop on the App State Marshall game that was televised on CBS last Saturday at 3:30. The rating was a .7. Kind of surprised at the relatively low rating.

Would be curious about the ratings by demographic. I’m guessing the biggest football watching audience is 18-30 year old men who are single. If you are married with kids there is just too much on weekends to allocate a few hours to watching a game. Now watching the Dukes is another story.

That said specific to the rating for App State and Marshall that’s relatively low - ESPN gets higher ratings in the 1.0+ range for games this season and matches that ratings with a game that had Texas State in it. JMUs playoff games on ESPN 2 have done better than that rating and their Abc game I believe doubled that.

18-30 year olds would rather spend their day playing Call of Duty then watching football.

While it is nice for Marshall and App State to have 1.25 million viewers for 3 hours on a Saturday, that has to be an all time low for Saturday afternoon CBS football.
Does anyone know if overall TV viewership is up during the pandemic? I feel like I watch less now and spend more time outdoors doing athletic-ish activity.
More couch potatoes or less?

Up until this weekend I watched less. This weekend, I watched more for a few reasons: 1, first weekend with SEC games, 2 the weather was not good, 3) was interested in how our former guys :( did with UVA.

I saw it as .7 not 1.25 so even worse for Marshall and App. Hey . 7 is better than the 0.0 that a JMU game garnered by not playing but I do believe for whatever the reason JMUs Q rating in terms of eyeballs on TVs social media impressions is relatively strong compared with these two older FBS programs. Maybe it’s a fresher brand, who knows but many would assume that App State and Marshall have a higher Q ratings and I don’t think that’s true- in fact I think it’s been proven to be false in multiple occasions. I think the Tv suits probably recognize that as well. Ratings are one metric but still very important.

.7 rating equals 1.25 million viewers if I read the chart correctly. That is a nice infomercial that G5 schools rarely get on a big 3 broadcast network, but nothing near a SEC Saturday feature game with a 5 or 6 rating.

What was our ABC rating for the NC game?

1.8 rating and 2.7million viewers for the ABC championship game with no other College football games on at the same time.
It wasn’t Cignetti’s best game to show the TV crowd unfortunately.

JMU had a worse time slot for their game and their ratings was 2 1/2 times higher.

Also the JMU Youngstown state title game had the poor time slot and was on ESPN and it had a .9 rating. The year JMU didn’t make the championship North Dakota State got a .6% rating vs Eastern Washington.

I’m telling you JMU is a pretty reliableCommodity in terms of tv relative to other mid major programs. It’s been proven time and time again- why do you think ESPN brought game day back-ratings and interest around JMU is relatively high.

Compared to mid majors, yes JMU has street cred. The rest of your logic is homer flawed.
