Penny said he's spoken with about 16 candidates for the job. No rush. I don't think Nolan was offered the job, he's just getting some mileage out of the interview by making it public. Not exactly cool, but whatever.

Yea, I always say, if a recruit or a coach doesn't want to come to Memphis, who needs them?!?!

Memphis is just going up. Coach Penny is making Memphis the place for recruits to go to. If these players and coaches can't handle being among the best, then we will find someone that will.

Try Flickr ............. they have a free service; but I have Flickr PRO because I have almost 12,000 photos that I don't want to disappear.

I had always assumed Penny had already locked up an assistant...They just weren't available or we were better off giving them more unrestricted recruiting time.

I guess not.

The job was his and he would only turn it down if coach K said don’t leave, stay here. He reportedly has the next promotion at Duke.

Not worried about Penny finding the right guy. Also no reason to think poorly of Nolan. He has deep roots at Duke and a future there even if he was very interested in working with Penny. Everything doesn’t have to have a sinister motive.

Nah, word is he was not offered. But that the interest was there. Nolan reached out to Memphis to initiate. Memphis was interested and he was one of the 16 guys. Sounds like he was certainly on the short list.

Nolan used the interview that HE initiated to get a better deal at Duke. That's business. What's not cool, is going public about it, like "Memphis offered but I'm staying here". We'll be fine and he'll be fine. Just unnecessary.

We got different words from the street.

There is almost always gamesmanship in the hirings. Nobody wants to look like the loser if the other side steps back.

No big thang either way. Penny will get a high quality guy (or gal) but like some of his hires they may not be expected or typical.

I didn't think much of the Cody Toppert hire ... But I've been impressed so far. I imagine there are quite a few of us who thought the same. So I'm going to be ... Patient for awhile and avoid any opinions or comments. Of course, there are experts out there who say they know who it is but aren't going to say ... But ...

Steves, don't you find that hard to believe that experts would keep quiet about it? If they are, I admire their loyalty to Penny. We live in an age that can't wait to let the cat out of the bag, even if it's not even a cat in the bag. Don't be true, be first.
