RE: The morning after
I feel UAB ran a "vanilla game plan" against UCA in order not to tell Miami too much, and in turn, Miami ran a "vanilla game plan" against UAB for the same reasons. The speed and strength differential between the two teams made the main difference in the score with Miami finishing stronger in the 4th qtr.. UAB played a good game and showed up well against a P5 program overall.

I don't think I'd go that far, the offense is just that basic. 2013 Lashlee/Malzahn basically just ran behind Greg Robinson every play, and threw 2 or 3 bombs to Coates whenever the defense got too close.

I gave the announcers the benefit of the doubt on ID’ing players since they were both doing their job from their home offices. It did make it harder to tell who was in the game and/or who made a play but such is life this season. They couldn’t have been much happier about the arrangement, either.

Any idea if Hopkins is around this year or opted out?

RE: The morning after
Let’s start with a disclaimer-the next game I coach will be the first one beyond 5th grade YMCA football, so my opinions are worth about that much

1. Biggest weakness, and has been for a while-Offensive line. Don’t know if it’s scheme or what, but we haven’t been able to control the line of scrimmage consistently against decent teams since the return.

2. Passing game seems to lack creativity. Don’t know if that’s scheme, line, or what

3. Defense isn’t the Steel Shield, but they should be able to beat most CUSA foes. Fatigue finally did them in imho

4. Isn’t it nice to be able to ***** about a a decent but disappointing showing against a pretty good team, instead of being embarrassed by bottom feeders like we were for about 10 years?

That’s why I previously brought up fhcnc but it was not a popular idea

NC had some keepers on the O-line and would be a good coach at that position.

I might change my mind if I rewatch with a critical eye but they were not beaten at the line until very late in the game when they were gassed. Again, I haven’t gone back to look at stats yet, but I think A LOT of the rushing yards came on the 4th down play (just a bad gap fit in a short yardage/goal line type set), the long scramble at the end of the half, and some amazing plays by the QB that would have probably been sacks against any other team we play this year. King missed on some passes as well but the coverage was good considering the dudes Miami has.

Offensively, the line got some push when Miami didn’t either stack the line or run stunt. QB play and/or play calling still seems lacking. Lucero is a natural thrower but I still think Tyler is the better QB, for now. Like y’all said, it looks like Tyler’s shoulder injury hasn’t ever really healed. It’s like he’s pushing the ball rather than slinging it. Spencer looked like the back everyone says he is. Whether it was injuries or weight, he might have been the third best option we had.last year. This year I expect him to roll.

I’m with Bill Clark as far as moral victories but I do feel better about the CUSA season today than I did last week.

Far too many missed tackles to say the defense played well.

IMO We do not prioritize the OL in recruiting.

I think we do but they just don't pan out like we want. The OL from year before last was pretty dominant as run blockers. We like to get our OL from Miss JUCOs. Our frosh don't seem to get to the level we want them by the end of their careers. I think we had OL coaching changes since then and that may have something to do with it.

I think the fact that we rely so heavily on last minute JUCO pick-ups is evidence that we don't prioritize the OL in recruiting.

RE: The morning after
i think it is the most difficult position to evaluate in hs .
Against Miami , we run the ball on the right side all the time
The starter qb cannot throw long ball and it make the job for the ol more difficult
THe backup will be the starter very soon and it will help to OL
