Kevin Johns, Memphis offensive coordinator — Brett McMurphy of Stadium listed Johns as a candidate not long after it was revealed that Hopson was stepping down, and the offensive coordinator does make some sense at USM. As a former offensive coordinator at Texas Tech, Western Michigan and Indiana, he could implement a high powered scheme that USM is likely looking for. Johns’ offense has always featured a strong ground game — something USM was missing during Hopson’s tenure.

I would expect them to go with an interim this season, talk to guys throughout the year and make the hire after the season.

They’d have to find some cash to get Freeze. At $2mil per year and a new five year contract, he makes more than Silverfield. Hopson was paid $500k.

His history is coaching defense, so that wouldn’t work. Plus he’s already had a go here as Larry Porter’s DC, so I dunno about that.

my bad y'all for some reason I remembered him as Tommy West's OC during 2007 and 2008...that was probably Helton.

the years/names ran together on me...
