RE: If no COVID, would wildfires have impacted season?
Eugene/Springfield is very bad right now. Air quality is terrible, but mandatory evacuations are right up to the city. The wildfire started only about 30 or 40 miles east of the Eugene/Springfield metro, and high winds yesterday blew the fire straight toward town.
Eugene/Springfield is a city mostly oriented east and west with Eugene on the west side and Springfield on the east. We use a three level evacuation warning system out here. Level 1 means get ready(gather needed things, start packing, decide where to go). Level 2 means get set(leave if you're ready and able, watch the news closely). Level 3 means GO!(get out now, don't stop to pack, don't stop for anything, get the hell out). The eastern quarter of Springfield is now under a level 1 order and everything east of the city is level 3.
There's hope that winds will improve tomorrow and Friday, but I have to seriously doubt there would be an Oregon/Ohio State game on Saturday, at least one in Eugene. The last thing the city and county would want is people coming into the area and using up hotel space and resources when they are far more needed for the hundreds of displaced families from the surrounding areas. Not to mention that most of the Eugene/Springfield metro could be facing mandatory evacuations if the wind situation gets worse in the next couple days. I've lived here less than two years, but the long time residents say this is by far the worst fire situation the city has seen.

Most of California is covered in smoke. Even the 49ers and Rams games might have problems.
