Not that surprising when considering that approx. 40% of P5, 40% of G5, 50% of Independents and a majority of FCS teams have either postponed (allegedly) or canceled their seasons. That’s a lot of audience including entire regions. With no skin in the game, many fans (especially casual fans) simply aren’t that stoked for college football.*

RE: Saturday TV ratings
I am assuming that the whole nation had access to the game.

If so, that is great!

This helps with recruiting. This exposes HS players to Memphis and how exciting Memphis' RPO is.

And, with great receivers and RBs to eat up yards, that excites the recruit.

With players sitting out and conferences not playing, it all seems like exhibition ball... all of it, football, baseball, basketball and football.

I am a sports junkie, but I’ve only watched 2 complete games on TV since Covid shut things down... Memphis v Arkansas State & CBHS v MUS.

Annecdotaly, I am hearing a lot of comments from people that they want politics out of pro sports and that they are no longer viewing NBA and NFL games. Even worse, being here in Dallas....comments pertaining to any protests during that national anthem by the COWBOYS would mean a boycott and that they are no longer America's team. Fans really don't care to hear about a sports multi millionaires opinion on anything political, conservative or liberal. They just want them to play the game and keep their political opinions to themselves. Also, it appears by most surveys that the majority of Americans support the police and oppose defunding and that includes blacks in heavy crime areas in major cities. I just wached a movie a friend sent me called TAKING CHANCE with Kevin Bacon in the lead role which is a true story. It is well worth watching and relates to why protesting anything or promoting any cause during the National Anthem is probably not the smartest idea.

Sports the way we know it is over. It has nothing to do with politics. People literally realize that they don't need sports and that we've been programed to think so. It's a great awakening

Thanks for posting this. Really thought the game would have pullled a larger audience but I did not see what we were up against in terms of other programming on TV at the same time.

The way the world is right now, I would bet all sports ratings are down. I'm not interested in any sports outside of Memphis.

Same here. After the Grizz were eliminated I have not watched 1 minute of the NBA.

I don't know about over (because I don't know how you define over), but I agree with everything else. We've had this routine for decades now of how our sports rotate through the seasons. And that routine was hit hard by COVID. Now people have found new routines as a replacement and some of them may prefer to stick with that instead of going back to sports.

This is a really great movie. A friend bought it for me..because he felt it was worth seeing and he was right. It was a real tear jerker that gave me even greater appreciation for our servicemen and women. Kevin Bacon also won a GOLDEN GLOBE for being best actor.
