Coach Freeman Contract
I know a lot of you guys [like me] think the world of Coach Freeman. He's cut from a similar cloth as Big Fick. I greatly appreciate all that he stands for, how he handles his business, his coaching acumen and how he leads young men. I'm very happy for this well deserved raise and I hope we can keep him beyond two more years but I completely understand if a head coaching gig comes his way that he can't turn down. Enjoy the ride...

I remember when Freeman was not a popular hire...something about Purdue's defense being really bad...

I remember being at the game in West Lafayette and a terrible UC team putting 512 yards up in winning 38-20. It was the second game of Tommy Terribles last season. A season that featured other wins over TN Martin (FCS), a bad Redskin team, and a bad ECU. 5 TO's helped but still TT lead UC to 512. That was not a good defensive effort.

Its almost like a position coach can't make an impact on an entire team/defense, especially under a pretty terrible head coach.

RE: Coach Freeman Contract
Freeman was only the co-DC at Purdue. The other guy came up with the scheme. That being said even if you want to throw shade at Freeman, coaches can get better over time.

I also remember when this board said Fickell sucked too.

My post was just to point out why some were skeptical.

Maybe I'm wrong but I vaguely recall that "pretty terrible head coach" was reportedly Fickell's first choice to be OC but decided to take a job as WR coach with the Vikings instead. FWIW he didn't last long at that job and retired after the 2018 season per wikipedia.

He got $5 million to leave and he retired after a year with Vikings.
