WMU isn’t new to this. They even extended to Flowers...

What am I missing?

Bilas is a moron... and he’s trying to grow his influence. He loves starting this kind of argument.

I have no idea where WMU went wrong here... they even offered him a return spot. Wtf!?

This is just stupid on Flowers part and on Bilas part. Bilas speaking out without knowing the full story. Flowers tweeting out something that he should be talking to the NCAA/WMU/South Alabama directly about. WMU made a response but it didn't help but staying quiet wouldn't have helped either. Social media is stupid.

How long were we supposed to keep Flowers' scholarship open?

What if anything did we do that stood in the way of his immediate eligibility at new school?

Nothing. From what I am learning WMU did nothing to mess with Flowers ability to start immediately. The NCAA is the hammer here... The NCAA determined he could NOT start immediately. And due to that fact, a couple of his options disappeared.

My thought is that when the NCAA determined he needed to sit out a year (due to nothing WMU did) and his primary landing spots dried up he wanted to return to WMU.... but by then WMU had already moved on with his scholy. Thus... irritating Flowers... so he lashes out at the University.

You are hitting this on the head. Remember he had his "top 4" with a bunch of pretty solid programs and a few P5? They probably learned he couldn't play right away and backed off, he then wanted to return to WMU because he had limited options, and then had to settle for a place he doesn't really want to be at.

FWIW

I have been aware of this entire process since the start in real time (as it was happening).

And I will stake whatever personal and/or processional character or worth that I have on this board and in this community on this statement.

The people at WMU are being 100% truthful with this, and there was never any malintent involved.

They were asked to present a specific case to the NCAA.

Instead they presented a timeline of the facts, as they occurred.

The NCAA rendered its decision.

MF didn't get what he wanted.

And now we are left with this.

I have never in my entire life (outside of maybe Robert Spillane) seen the WMU athletic department try to block a transfer. I've been around and following them for 30+ years. Much better players than MF have left and they have let them leave. The WMU athletic department is full of people of high character, we disagree with their decisions, but I never have thought they weren't quality people looking out for our students.

I will add one thing after reading the Paul story. TK really needs to find or present evidence that the phone call happened with Flowers before they moved on.

Flowers is just being a little butt hurt ***** here and anyone who knows the program sees the same thing. The Jay Bilas and Vitale outrage on social media is just a travesty to facts... but what are facts to the ones trying to just stir a pot. WMU is getting dragged through waters muddied by the NCAA and a social media crew who are more concerned with a college kids reflection of fact over 30 years of compliance.

F you Bilas and F you Vitale.

Yep. Unless he had Coach Kelley's phone wiretapped in April, his insistence that WMU is lying without any rationale is douchey at best, treading on libelous.

More like digging around for Likes and Retweets during a slow news season for college basketball.

RE: Flowers throwing some exit shade on WMU
Quote:So when Hawkins was fired, Flowers started thinking about moving on, but said Western Michigan athletic director Kathy Beauregard made it a point to tell the players that they would be involved in the search for the next head coach. Flowers, like most of the players, was hoping for Saddi Washington, but he stayed at Michigan.

Then, quickly, amid a COVID-19 pandemic that had put the university into a hiring freeze, Western turned to Bates, and hired him on a two-year deal.

Players were never involved in the process, Flowers said.

"That was the first (lie)," Flowers said.

Or, when a once-in-a-century pandemic shut the nation down and threatened to burn every mid major's athletic budget to the ground, those search plans needed to change.

It really shows you how selfish these kids can be. They didn’t know what in the world was going on - none of us did. KB didn’t text or call him back? No ****! The athletic department has been on the cusp of implosion for months now. Selfish. Only cares about himself.

So does this boil down to whether Flowers told Kelley he wasn't coming back or not?

I just hope that Flower's does well wherever and whenever her plays. I really enjoyed watching him play and am grateful for his contribution to Western Basketball. Be safe, Broncos.

RE: Flowers throwing some exit shade on WMU
I have no problem with WMU giving the scholly away. They had to make that decision sooner or later.

It seems like Flowers' issue should be with the NCAA. Seems very odd to me that they wouldn't issue a waiver for an athlete after a coaching change when they were pretty much approving everyone else for immediate eligibility.

I will say, KB retweeting stuff comparing it to a breakup etc seems a little petty. Probably better to leave it to the official statements.
