Or expects "good" teams to have beaten some other good teams to get ranked #15. Would UAB be ranked at all if we had beat Navy, Troy, and LT in our first three games? Maybe be a few votes, at best.

Competition matters. BYU hasn't played or beaten a good team. UTSA hasn't beaten a good team either but they have beat the spread the last two weeks. That's a sign of progress and what I would like to see UAB start doing again regularly (1-3 so far).

If we played BYU at home, they would go down IMO. Quite a few G5's that would beat them.

Watson Brown teams were known to beat the spread. I would rather win.

WTF does that have to do with anything? I doubt seriously if that's even true. UAB favored was like a kiss of death back then. He was the King of the Moral Victory but we're a conference favorite now and need to play like it.

You can be satisfied with winning seasons and ****** bowl games but I'm not. I'm looking for progress towards moving our program up. A big part of that is kicking these CUSA teams asses like we should. Stop ******* around with the sloppy football and show some real separation from the pack. We're capable.

We're a favorite now in CUSA, which means most of the time we'll be favored. Most of the time Watson's teams were not favored but when they were, they tended to suck. I'd like us to play like the favorite to win this league, like we were picked to do. Kinda like Marshall is playing right now. Don't **** around with inferior teams. Bury them.

BYU has three D-linemen and 4 O-lineman that will play in the NFL. They have an NFL QB and an NFL WR. They played without two future NFL offensive linemen tonight due to injuries and so couldn’t just manhandle UTSA like they have everyone else.
They would be favored by double digits against every CUSA team besides Marshal and they are very likely to end the season undefeated.

Based on what? Running up the score on some bad teams? Still haven't beaten or even played a good team this season. Prove that wrong. I said the G5, not CUSA. We're the worst league in college football that's playing this Fall, so you're probably right. I doubt they would win the AAC and I think Louisiana or App St could beat them. Possibly A State or Ga Southern. So could we if we didn't beat ourselves. Troy and LT SUCK and this ain't a good Navy team.

They get the benefit of the doubt because of their name. I won't be surprised if they lose one or more to Houston, Boise St., or SDSU. All three of those teams are better than UTSA.

Both unbeaten Coastal Carolina v. BYU will face off this Saturday.

04-cheers to whoever planned this at the last minute.

BYU was set as a contingency plan. BYU needs this game, and it gives Coastal a chance to play instead of sitting at home. Setting up a contingency plan was the smartest thing these two teams could have done.

Two Men and a Truck: The Last-Minute, 2,200-Mile Journey to Get BYU on the Field at Coastal Carolina

Quote:In a heady move, BYU began preparing for Coastal on Wednesday afternoon, even sending out that equipment truck of theirs on Wednesday night. Off went Hal and Fili, bumbling down the road and, to keep the negotiations secret, having only been told one thing: head toward the Carolinas (and oh, hope there’s a game when you get there).

And we can't even get a game arranged with Southern Miss, 3 hours or so down the road....

I'm sure Brian Mackin is working overtime in the conference office to help us out, being such an upstanding guy and all.

Perhaps the problem is not in Texas but a lot closer to Biloxi...?

That's been a whale of a game. I didn't think that the Chants would be able to run on BYU, but they're gashing them

I wanna steal their OC.

Maybe so. But you could say that about a lot of programs.

UAB should be the blueprint for how not to build an FBS/1-A program:

1. Start a program on a shoestring and then build nothing for the next 20 years.

2. Start a program and then fail to adequately supervise it. Eventually that led first to a terrible scandal (Benefield) and later academic disaster.

3. Make terrible hire after terrible hire at head coach (Watson, Callaway, McGee) and AD (Frazier, Watson, Mackin). For most of its existence, incompetence has ruled UAB football.

First we got to see our long-time conference mates like Memphis, Houston, Cinci, USF and others leave us behind. Then we get to see teams like Coastal and Liberty pass us by.

CCU, Louisiana, Liberty, and in prior years App State, are having the kind of seasons that the long-timer UAB football fans have dreamed about since the Barry Bearden at QB days. Ranked and beating nationally respected opponents. My Dad passed last year without ever seeing it happen for Blazer football. I hope I live long enough to see us finally break through.

you forgot what should have been number one. having a governing body actively doing everything in its power to hamper the program so it will fail. a governing body who's ultimate goal is the death of the program. no other school has dealt with anything close to what UAB has had to deal with. there is a long list of very good coaches that wanted the UAB job that the BOT prevented UAB from hiring. Getting turned down by UAB has given three coaches the opportunity to win national championships.
