Good news. Past time to turn the page. Hopefully we can manage a winning season somehow and make all the right moves thereafter. Looked like he was losing the players / team. A reboot won't hurt. I trust Jeremy. But I dont trust he will get to hire who HE thinks is the best candidate.

From the article it sounds like it was primarily Hopson's decision to step down, and that McClain agreed with it. I wasn't expecting that. We did lose several impact players to transfers. Yet it's interesting that at least in the case of Jacques Turner- he was giving lots of praise to Coach Hopson when discussing his decision to transfer. Just confusing trying to figure out what was going on internally with the program.

This was done to save face and perhaps help with his coaching career / future. Make it sound like a resignation. Either way, time to move on.

What's the big infatuation with Walden? The bathroom beauty on EP is all lathered up. I don't trust Jeremy and I sure as hell don't trust Bennett.

They see his numbers at some NAIA/D3 school (honestly don't remember which it was) and believe he's got some phenomenal offense.

My greatest concern is that, whoever comes in, they need to be able to recruit. I want a guy who can sale kids on Southern Miss AND fans on Southern Miss. We haven't had that for a while.

All I want from the interim is to stop the free fall. If we can somehow finish at or above .500 this year, that’s gravy.

Walden’s the obvious internal choice to fill the role because he—albeit briefly—has been a college HC before, and a successful one at that (unlike a certain other hire we made some years ago with a similarly limited body of work). We’ll just have to wait and see if any of it translates.

Word on the street is it went down exactly as presented. I respect Hopson greatly for that if so.

If another former HC had realized his time had passed and stepped down on his own instead of having to be dragged out kicking and screaming, it could’ve saved us 14 years and counting of drama, in-fighting, and assorted idiocy, and the program would be better for it today.

Agreed. Hop bowed out gracefully and humbly, but he also didn't have the level of success the former HC had. That being said, we may not have gone through as much drama had he done the same.
