This whole thing reminds me of a common tax evasion practice that was in practice back in the pre-computer era. (No longer so, I would think.)

Present something that is intentionally wrong or incorrect; if it gets through, fine, you win. If caught, treat it as an error.

Example: Do the supporting schedule, and say the total comes to $175,867.
Transfer to the main schedule as $75,867. If it isn't caught in audit, fine, you just saved taxes on $100K. If they do catch it, plead error, and pay the taxes.

Of course, the editing I thought odd was where where the House managers edited out the part where Trump said to protest peacefully.

Explain what was wrong and incorrect about the tweet that was presented by the House team, please.

It was manufactured. Jeezus fing krist this is like Groundhog Day here.

So did Trump not retweet a tweet from Jennifer Lynn Lawrence saying "We have been marching all around the country for you Mr President. Now we will bring it to DC on Jan 6 and PROUDLY stand beside you! Thank you for fighting for us @realDonaldTrump!"

And note that I was asking OO, not you.

So any typo in a document presented in a court of law is considered manufacturing evidence?

Kind of black and fing white. Cha cha cha Sunday with lad I guess.

"That this was not a tweet that went out" Do you mean the content of the tweet didn't wasn't sent out?

I have no fing clue what you are asking here.

Quote:Yes, it is clear that they created an image (they've admitted that) and in doing so a check was added to an account that didn't have it (they've admitted that).

And thats it in a nutshell.

Quote:And it also seems odd that a typo or mistake in something presented in court would, regardless of its context, be labeled as manufacturing evidence OR tampering with evidence.

When you present something as an original, and it is not the original, and you have changed it, that is precisely the definition of evidence tampering.

If you have a picture of a wreck scene, and you photo shop the bystanders out, and present it as an original --- bingo bango bongo. Kind of first year law school stuff. Amazing as fk no manager, nor anyone on their staff thinks of it that way.

If you have a photo and crop it, you have to state that it is not the original. You have to state that it came from the original.

The singular fact that a check was added makes this the classic textbook case of evidence tampering.

They could have procured an image of the original any number of ways -- they *chose* instead to manufacture it.

If your comment above this is true, I suggest you never go to law school or take a bar. I would fundamentally hate to see someone with that lax attitude towards 'correcting a mistake and presenting it as original' anywhere near a court of law.

And again, the fact that they *chose* to manufacture instead of procuring in the correct way a the image of the tweet tells one something about either the incredible laxity, the crappy preparation, or the sheer earnestness of the effort there. None of those options, singly or in tandem, sound like good to me.

And honestly lad, I am kind of tapped out with the constant litany of what ifs. I suggest you rtfm on evidence from this point.

Your question is nonsensical. I suggest you try again.

A 'typo in a document' is not 'manufacturing' -- neither legally, nor semantically for that matter.

Half the time when you think a question ace #1 formed, it is not. I am pretty sure that this question is not. And, considering how many times you pop off about someone else 'going down a track', I am going to let *you* actually ask the right question instead guessing what the fk you are actually trying to ask.

TBH, I see nothing wrong with what Lawrence said. Unless you think the word "fight" is bad. if so, you didn't see the montage the defense lawyers gave of dozens of democrats using that word, including Biden, Harris, Schumer, and Pelosi.

Decided to look up some of the things trump said:

"I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard," Trump said in his speech. "

On Twitter:

"I know your pain," Trump said. "I know you're hurt. We had an election that was stolen from us. It was a landslide election and everyone knows it, especially the other side, but you have to go home now."

He also urged his supporters to be peaceful and maintain "law and order."

"Please support our Capitol Police and Law Enforcement," he tweeted. "They are truly on the side of our Country. Stay peaceful!"

Did the House impeachment managers present these?

The weather across Texas is almost unbelievable. Photos this morning show some Galveston beaches covered in snow. Major highways in Houston are completely empty. Pretty surreal - Houston certainly didn't shut down this much when it snowed somewhat heavily in 2017 or 2018.

And then there are the intentional, and unintentional, power outages across the state that could lead to some potentially deadly situations.

Stay safe y'all!

That sucks OO

Our power hasnt rolled but I expect it to.

Our hot water has disappeared, so I fear an ice up at that line, keeping the cold in motion.

ERCOT is in a quasi state of panic currently, from a friend there and a friend at the PUC. Wind power has disappeared, even worse than the 50% drop reported yesterday. They simply dont have an idea how to get through the next two days without massive rolling blackouts.

Power on now, since 9:35. Prior to that, off at 12:45 am.

Pattern seems to be about 9-10 hours off, about 4 on.

Couple that with two sisters in separate hospitals for serious matters, that I cannot get to.

AND the cancellation of my Covid Vax.

Not a good week.

Of course I will as I always try to make the best of any situation. You would be surprised at some of the things I have faced. Someday I wil regale you with stories of my sojourns in rural Mexico, such as flying in to discover the airport is now a cow pasture.

In many ways, things have gotten better. My power has been on, so at least I am not freezing, and I can get on the internet. But my water well is frozen at the well head, so no water for bathing, flushing, washing dishes or laundry. I do have drinking water. When we get a little more thaw, I am heading to my ex's for a shower and shave.

I have contacted my well man, and he says I will probably be without water for 3-6 more days. Depends on not only temps, but supplies. If my pump is damaged, big money.

Sister A, the crazy one, passed out in her shower Jan 27. Luckily we pay for an attendant to be there for safety when she showers. That started a sequence of emergency room, ICU, regular hospital, and rehab that ends tomorrow. She has been cleared to "go home". Although there are two problems with that: The docs recommend more care, so we are going to move her to an assisted living, but it had burst pipes and cannot take her tomorrow, so she has to go back to her old place, where she is terrified of her delusions. Solution: around the clock personal care at $21/hr.

Other sister, B, had surgery for a brain tumor. It is lymphoma. She is returning home today, but we don't yet have a prognosis or a line of treatment.

So all in all, I feel a bit like Davy Crockett when Bowie came to him and said "I guess we are OK for now. All the Mexicans are doing is playing their bugles."

Yeah, gallows humor is all I got now. But many others have worse situations.

Thank for the well wishes, and prayers where sent, but it really is just one day, one step at a time. It helps to pass the time (I am alone here) to come to the computer and debate things with my friends and frenemies, so thanks for the discussions and debates. I hope all is well for each of you in your lives, and getting better. I wish no man ill (man in the generic sense, not the gender sense).

Other than how much the left likes to hate on Ted Cruz, I really don't understand the hatred this incident has generated. It's not a good look, I admit, but it's hard to see any substantive impact it could have had.

Yeah, I agree that whether or not he was in Texas the outcome was not going to change.

I think with Cruz it is his lying and hypocrisy that makes people hate him. You know if the shoe was on the other foot he would have crushed a Democrat for doing the same thing (in fact I believe that he has in the past).

its been a wild ride here in Austin. We lost power well near midnite on the 16th. Expecting a 6 hour rolling blackout --- but it continued. Ran a generator for minimal serices for 8 hours. When it crapped out dry, we cut the water at the main and tried to leave for a friend's house in Pflugerville. Both cars were battery dead -- frozen batteries. We packed and hiked abut a half mile where another friend picked us up. Neighbors told us we had close to 36 hours with no power. I think we were lucky that we shut the water off and boogied. Every other house in our loop street has flooding issues right now, or they have stopped the flood with the key at the main.

The friend whose house we refugeed in and I 'rescued' another set of friends who came back to their house with an upstairs cracked pipe --- two floors of flood. We had 9 people camped out in my friend's house last night.

We lost the hot water on the 15th, so I am sure I have a stoppage or break somewhere after the main water split. We got home this am to a warm house, no water, and trying to revive one battery in one car. I think the freeze is right before the hot water heater, since the input line shutoff wont turn. The hot water output is shutoff, so hopefully if there is a break, it will be confined to the garage -- downhill from our main house. Still waiting for a better thaw period in the garage until I restart the water from the street.

My Fredericksburg place is going to be bad. A friend called me up Friday saying the winds had blown down the lines at their ranch, and could they post up at my place. They got in their, and they had actually brought a generator, so when the rolling blackouts of 6 hours off, 2 hours on, they could keep warm in a survival sense.

Every building on the property has blown pipes, there was a pipe burst in the barn just after the cistern water gets pressurized, so they shut the main water service valve off. The well house is nothing but solid ice pipes, the pictures that were taken there show multiple water streams flowing out of burst pipes and the pipe/pumps are all covered in ice sheets like a macabre Stephen King story. I know the well pump is blown since I have seen pictures of it taken by the 'refugees' who stood on the property, you can see the 'grind out' soot on the motor end.

Going to head over there tomorrow, but I am probably well into low six figures of damage there.

Funny thing is that the family that went through it there tried to pay me for their 'stay' -- told em there was no effing way that was going to happen.

They got out to their ranch this morning; their neighbors (a couple in their 80's) didnt get out in time. This is just an amazing event that just unfurled. I will be very surprise if only a few people (less than 150-200) died in rural Texas.

Best to everyone.
