RE: Clinical Trial to Support Vitamin D
I have no idea about vitamin D and Covid but as someone said above most older Americans are deficient in vitamin D. Blood test indicated that my wife and I were both deficient years ago. I was able to raise my levels sufficiently by taking 1000 units twice per day. It’s cheap, easy and definitely has health benefits. If you’re over 50 have your doctor include a vitamin D test when you do blood for your next physical. No need for mega doses but if you’re low you should bring it up to “normal” levels.

If you want to protect yourself from Covid, the most important thing you can do is lose weight.

42% of Americans are clinically obese. Obese patients are most likely to have comorbid conditions that put them at highest risk for life-threatening cases of Covid-19.

This
The only reason obesity is an issue is that vitamin d is a fat saliva vitamin. So a obese person is usually vitamin d deficient and needs to take a bigger dose.

Interesting read. I really need to get antibody test done. been taking Vitamin D for months. I had a very weird flu type bug last few days of Feb, and 1st of March. Symptoms really match up with Wuhan Flu. The worse part for me was the Body aches, they were off the charts bad, I also thought I was having a mild case of gout, but the article speaks of purple toes.. Thanks for posting it.

No problem. I had fever and cough recently, but it matched up with bad cold, mild flu symptoms. I got the COVID test as a precaution. It came back negative. I went to CVS drive up. Made the appointment online and results were back in 2 days. Medical people tell me the COVID cough is dry and from deep. I had the usually chest congestion stuff.

Forgive if duplicate....

Here is take away (IMO):

“Pending results of such trials, it would seem uncontroversial to enthusiastically promote efforts to achieve reference nutrient intakes of vitamin D, which range from 400 IU/day in the UK to 600–800 IU/day in the USA. These are predicated on benefits of vitamin D for bone and muscle health, but there is a chance that their implementation might also reduce the impact of COVID-19 in populations where vitamin D deficiency is prevalent; there is nothing to lose from their implementation, and potentially much to gain.”

I think those recommendations are minimum required for bone health. For immune health it's ranges from 2000 IU to 5,000 IU per day.

I take vitamin D3 but can't do it every day, it makes my skin itch. But living in the south & spending hours daily outside, I'm likely not deficient.
