Was ODU's decision, right or wrong
Covid-19 has hit this country in great numbers. Presently the state of Virginia is treading stable. After seeing two weak C-USA football teams play on CBS, I wonder if we pulled too soon. With the rest of C-USA playing (states hit hard by covid19) would we have been better playing with small crowds, but drawing big revenue from national T.V.? Note: In this morning's paper the AD of North Carolina, has reduce salaries of all coaches and staff. I think the ODAF will take a hit this year and time only will tell. Mean while where is our multi deficit coming from?

What National TV revenue? CUSA isn’t getting a new TV contract just because the big ten and pac aren’t playing. Now, the value of the potential exposure were missing out on is worth considering.

Yeah, I have no doubt economically it was a better option. Minium wrote that ODU's crowd would have been limited to 50, so parents wouldn't even have been able to come. From an image point of view it remains to be seen I guess.

Too early to tell. We will know in a month if it was smart or stupid.

And less than half of the team can meet and practice at the same time. Imagine trying to plan that.
And more importantly, kids were leery of traveling and playing.

Because of some arbitrary rule of the Governor's.
Serious question, does anyone know if VT, UVA, and Liberty are abiding by that rule?

I had my money on bluelight with another all caps post but jaybird went and snuck that curveball in.
To answer the question: yes. Just because Baghdad Bob doesn't publicly announce all the covid-related things going on, things are going on, just like any other school you've read about in the news.

IIUC specific to Hampton Roads, so none of those schools would be affected.

Ah, that's probably right. I forgot we got an extra special timeout.

I don't know if any of us know right now if the decision is right or wrong. I think we'll have the benefit of hindsight by the end of next month.

I doubt we will have any hindsight either way. Every school is different and what might work here or there may not work vis versa. And if our kids did not want to play (alluded to by Broderick), then its more of a no brainer.

That's fair. And I'd guess we had some who might have opted out, but I bet we had plenty who wanted to play. Pretty much like every team.

Split that part of the discussion to the OT board. One covid thread was more than enough for our main board.

I was not talking about a CBS contract, but some games on several networks like ESPN+

Just my opinion, but I said from Minute-1 that this decision was about money. Our athletic department net loss will be less by not playing vs. playing. And that does not include the risk of lawsuits in the future from players contracting the virus. Harry's first blurb was about it being about the safety of the players. But let's be honest. How much more of a risk is it compared to being an average college student? I think it's more, but not that much more.
So was the decision right or wrong? The virus spread was/is an unknown. The financial loss was known and nothing could change that. The lawsuit liability was unknown. I think based on these factors, the decision was right.

Yeah, those games won’t pay us anything extra. The TV contract is set. A pandemic doesn’t change that.
