More 50 person limit lies. You can believe we made the right decision, but stop with the gaslighting.

No so sure Virginia is in the South anymore.

I honestly have not seen an ACC team play yet. I wi have to go see who Has played. I dont view them as “tough as nail” and no one that I know does....but we all run in different crowds.

I habe not heard of one instance of this decision hurting our brand from potential recruits. Of course, if you believe we should be playing then maybe you feel like that is the case.

The B10 isnt gonna be hurt by skipping a year and neither will we. There is also a chance that teams play in the spring (which would actually be better for exposure since there would be no NFL

If we somehow decided to play (not sure how that is possible with 50 person limit), we would have had fans or recruits in the stands. I doubt other teams can have recruits in the stands either.

Your viewpoint of the virus is naturally gonna sway whatever viewpoint you have (all of us). If Im a parent, Im thinking “damn, ODU actually cares about its athletes.”

Although there have been a number of times when I've had differing opinions to your postings, couldn't agree more with you on this point. No way do I think caring about players' well being will come back to bite us. Not in the eyes of family, coaches, and caring fans. These athletes deserve a whole lot better treatment than our un-quenching thirst to have our entertainment needs met seem to call for. I don't know much about those who want players to hop onto the field and jeopardize their lives, but I for one remain content and happy with the path chosen by ODU. On to next season!

How in the world does it equate to that? Every area has different restrictions.

We are sitting at the table with the Big 10 if you want to spin it.

We aren’t in Big10 country and frankly this is hurting them too. They’re losing ground to the ACC as a result of this. But at least they made a decision as a conference. It’s not like Rutgers said we can’t hang with the rest of ya’ll, we’ll sit this out. Have fun. We literally are the only FBS school in Va or NC to choose not to play. Also, the only school in the AAC, CUSA or Sun Belt to not play. Meanwhile the CAA shut down and we joined them in that decision rather than acting like Liberty, ECU, Marshall, Charlotte, Temple or Navy, much less UVA, NC State and VT. It may be the right decision (or not), but either way, it looks terrible.

How is the B10 losing ground to the ACC?

Who does it look terrible too? There are plenty of people that agrre and support the decision.

Because the ACC is playing, on TV, getting press and looking like they are tough as nails football teams ready to go win some games and not tuck their tail and get scared of some adversity. That may not be what’s really happening, but that’s the perception. The people that agree with it and support it are largely acadamia, politicians, and older populations. Football players, coaches, players parents, younger folks and football fans in general either disagree or are on the fence. Obviously with some exceptions. Last I looked we were trying to recruit athletes, not future professors. So this decision hurts our brand amongst potential recruits, coaches, parents and fans. Basically the people needed to have a successful program. The rest of CUSA is taking advantage of the opportunity. 2 CUSA vs G5 or FCS games have already been added to ESPN2 national broadcasts. Our Wake game surely would have been picked up for a national broadcast. You really don’t think this is going to hurt us on the recruiting trail? My hope is CUSAs gain will help us, but it will be tougher to climb out of the basement now. Just hope we can keep all of our good recruits with no games for them to come to.

Honestly, it was tough watching our conference mates play yesterday knowing we will not be. I didn’t watch much of the games though because they were mostly blowouts. But I wonder how much national exposure CUSA will get once P5 teams start playing. Probably will be relegated to ESPN+ as usual. I really don’t care whether this decision was right or wrong. The decision was made and I think it is too late to change our minds. We move on and make the best of it. Extra practice to prepare for the upcoming season, whether that be spring or next fall. This is not the first time ODU football has had to endure practices with no games in near sight.

I believe the CAA jumped on the no play bandwagon for the same reason the other no revenue, little PR conferences shut down first chance, it saved the schools money and the decision can be defended. Other than JMU and maybe W&M/DE nobody shows up at CAA football games.

Example, random Pioneer league football game, the 500 people that would have shown don't...so what?

Rice has delayed practices for another month till the end of September which means their first few conference games will likely be cancelled or rescheduled.

However you feel about us not playing, Rice is making us look much better since we gave the league ample time to adapt the schedules. While they leave the league scrambling.

So many questions. They mention COVID-19 conditions in Houston, but not related to the team. Do they have infections on the team? Or are they just not testing due to the rapid testing issues they mention? And what about the games they canceled? Are these considered forfeits or are special accommodations being made? What if they can't make up some games?

Rice is just passing the buck. I highly doubt they'll play this year, their president has expressed a lot of hesitation about playing football, and if they do somehow play it'll be at the tail end of the season.

So the University of Houston (AAC) can play but Rice cannot, because of the numbers in the city. Things that make you go hmmm.

Time will tell what effect ODU's stand will have. I must admit it was a bit strange to read ESPN's projection of the CUSA standings and not see ODU in there.

Im trying to keep up with the conference race a little, but it just makes me a mixture of mad and sad. I guess Im just an ODU fan, rather than a "football" fan. If my team isnt playing, or the game has no impact on the Monarchs standing, its just not as interesting. Basketball cant start soon enough.

Does anyone know how our team is doing with Covid case numbers? I saw where LT canceled its game against Baylor due to a spike. Would we have been able to play our game against Wake Forest? Are we even testing at all right now? I assume so since we are supposedly practicing. And most importantly, does anyone have any reports from these practices? How is the QB situation looking? Any word on what the coaches think of Wolff now that they've seen him in some action?

As far as the team not sure but the local news reported that we only have 16 cases on campus compared to 80+ at Va Tech. COGS

To be fair, they've tested a far higher number of people.

To answer the question, though, I haven't heard any practice reports. I don't think SID folks are even on campus, so I doubt we'll hear much of anything.

We are not practicing right now. I believe there were fewer than 5 practices before things were shut down, so I'm not sure anyone got a good look at anything. I think with HR restrictions being lifted I they would start conditioning again soon and work up to practices. From what I heard on covid numbers, more than reported for the team originally but nothing disastrous thus far, but there has been 'activity' recently. I would expect testing would precede any new activities.

This is part of what I don’t get. OHio St coach comes out in favor of playing in part because he’s standing up for his players wishes. ODU wants us to believe that in spite of all these other schools playing, and the players at other schools not playing being vocally upset about the decision, ODU players are thankful and united in the decision to not play. So much so, they are writing letters of appreciation to the admin. It just sounds fishy that our guys feel so differently from the players at other schools. Players usually want to play. I can understand being told no, but I’m shocked our coaches and players seem so agreeable to it and embracing the decision..
