No fans at ECU home opener vs UCF
Fresh from my email inbox:

“East Carolina's season-opening football game against UCF on September 26 in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium will be closed to the public due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic according to an announcement by ECU Athletics Director Jon Gilbert on Wednesday.

ECU Athletics will continue to work with University, local and state health officials to determine capacity for the remaining four home games.

"This is disappointing news to deliver to Pirate Nation," Gilbert said. "Currently, it is in the best interest to proceed without fans for our first home game after consulting with local and state health officials. We are optimistic we will be able to host fans in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium during the 2020 season at the appropriate time."

The UCF contest will include only essential game management and broadcast personnel, and a limited number of media members. Parking lots operated by the University and used by fans on gameday will be closed.”

This is going to be bizarre. No fans at The Fick or tailgating for a game of this magnitude. It’s hard to imagine. 2020 just keeps dishing it out.

Word on the street from my sources is the press box will also be sparse and game photos might be via ECU affiliated photographers only--no media outlets allowed on the sidelines.

If that pans out as true it kind of sucks for me as I took a new job that set up very well with my photo duties and now I won't be able to take advantage.

I can only assume that 2020 vintage wines will taste like utter garbage. Man...bad year.

Finally, something that makes sense. Players parents can attend the game now at least.

UCF looks pretty good again this year. Tough game to start with.
