RE: first game of 2020
This is the absolute worst football team Ive ever seen at USM. The 0-12 team would have beaten the hell out of this team, even though they would be trying to lose. Hell, even the much worse 1-11 team would beat this team. From a talent stand point, its not even close. From a coaching stand point, Hop will put up a fight with EJ. I could never despise a coach as much as I do EJ and what he did to this program, but a close second is still pretty ******* bad.

I think several more players quit during the year (probably some this week), and the AD may be forced to fire this ass clown before the end of the season. Ive seen rock bottom before, so I know what its like....and its here again.

Best part of the game was at 1. 50 mark when we finally called the first timeout. Mic caught a guy in the stands yelling good job hop! Fire him tonight and just find a great offensive coordinator from uab or western Kentucky. We can't afford any big schools and I question if we could afford anyone in cusa. Saw hop running in canebrake a few months ago. He had the same face as he did tonight. Clueless!

I've emailed the AD about this dumpster fire of a football program we have at USM. I don't think it will even remotely help. I just want them to know that this is unacceptable even for a poor school like us. His players are undersized and out coached and most of them looked as if they really didn't care.

The latter is a result of the former. How many leads can you p*ss away or startup programs can you get smashed by before you lose all confidence in what you’re being told to do and resign yourself to just going through the motions?

I’m telling you, buckle up because this only going to get worse as the season progresses.

The worst part is that getting rid of Hop won't suddenly make things better. We've had years of awful recruiting. What good players want to come play next to kids that don't belong on a D1 football field?

In less than a decade, USM went from worthy adversary to one of the worst FBS programs. Honestly, I think this team would get blown out by almost everybody on the FCS Top 25.

Even the better Ivy League schools like Harvard and Princeton would steamroll this team.

Time to nip this Hopson experiment in the bud and hire an SEC coordinator.

Ones that want to play instead of the kids who don’t belong on a D1 field.

Even Hopson could recruit some good players to come here. He just didn’t know what to do with them and was unable to keep them because they figured out he’s lost.

App State fan here. Not looking to pile on, more just general curiosity from a fan of a program that’s “flying high” right now. In many ways seeing you all in this state is terrifying to me because if it can happen to you, it can happen to us. In fact you’ve had far more success than we have had and still in spite of that, find yourself here.

So my larger questions are, what the f*** happened? Obviously I can read about Fedora leaving and the bad coaching hire and 12-2 to 0-12. But was it really just a bad coach? Did something else happen internally around the same time period and the bad year was an additional catalyst? How the hell did you guys get to this point in a decade?

The 2nd bad hire is what has us here today. 3 years after Johnson left, Monken had us at 9-3 and back in the conference championship game. We then farted that away with another “aw, shucks” homer instead of bringing up the next trendy assistant to win a bunch of games before he leaves in a few years. The difference between Johnson and Hopson is Johnson’s flaws went straight to a full boil whereas Hopson’s simmered for 3+ years before coming to a boil in the middle of last season. Now the pot’s boiling over.

We have other issues, too. Our finances blow chunks, but that’s always been the case. Conference realignment has successively lowered our profile, but we’re in the same league Monken recruited in, and as you well know, conference isn’t destiny.

It really is all about who’s at the helm at our level. Every hire can make or break you.

That's about as well put as it gets. I would add that our AD situation during these times didn't help as well as our president being mediocre at best.

I appreciate the insight. It’s easy to think the good times will always roll when you’re on top, but I’ve always been an overly cautious skeptic. In many ways I see you all when I look at App State. We both play at “The Rock”, we both wear black and gold and I constantly hear how we “do more with less”. and at least until this year, our recruiting has always been way down in comparison to our on field performance, which I suspect is not sustainable.

Coaching consistency has always been our saving grace, but in a blip of time we are on coach 3 in 3 years. Time will tell how he pans out, everyone seems to think we won’t miss a beat but it’s scary none the less.

Good luck to you all this year. Do us all a favor and beat those smug SOBs in Ruston. I think South Alabama might be better than we all expected. Cheers.

Just finished watching the game on DVR. Great to see FB. Not a fan of CBS going REAL heavy in the 1st Quarter and commercials on politics.

The Rock looks similar to Bobby Dodd before they added the ridiculous North Endzone in 2003.

I’ve always figured our football stadiums & basketball arenas were designed by the same people. The resemblances are uncanny but for ours having fewer frills.
