Go the school = all and should ould see the uncommitted DT transfers.

Wouldn't hurt to snag a FBS DT transfer for '22.

Just to let folks know, the database of offers is added to as offers become known instead of posting each new individual offer. This applies to football and basketball. I do post recruiting stories of interest.

We offer JUCO WR Darius Lassiter. Has 8 offers including ours some from FCS schools

https://www.hudl.com/profile/8440001/Darius-Lassiter

We also have interest in Devell Washington who entered the transfer portal recently and a Michigan native.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/pl...washington

He already has drawn interest from 6 to 7 FBS schools.

Being able to work the transfer portal - both keeping guys out of it and using it as a recruiting tool to bring guys in - is going to be an important skill for every college football coach in america going forward. based on the results this year - CC seems like hes been able to adapt.

I understand your point, but predicting that a school, a particular school, will be successful is largely unknown.

Its a whole new dimension of talent evaluation and resource management. Michigan State has been EXTREMELY successful with transfer players. Part of Clemson falling off is that they lost like 20 kids to the portal and took in 0.

Okay, but still transfer portal is largely unknown.

To paraphrase the expression used in financial circles, "past success is no guarantee of future..."

As our father indicates, players want to PLAY. If they think their school is loaded at their position and they are stuck, they may wish to look elsewhere.

I have NO idea IF MSU will do well in the transfer this year or Clemson will do poorly again. Will players want to go to Clemson seeing an opportunity to join and play at a top rated program?

Totally unchartered territory. Last year we got transfers from P5 schools, a FCS school, etc.

Pulling players from above and below us is going to be important for EMU going forward. If CC and his assistants can identify good fits and recruit them into our program it will give us an advantage over programs that struggle with it.

Interesting info on the transfer portal. It will absolutely be adjusted in 3 years when the data comes out with all the guys not graduating or being left without a school to attend etc. Greg Kampe from Oakland has some really good thoughts on the portal if anyone wants to read from a mid-major perspective and it applies to football and hoops.

Until then, CC needs to do what he has built on by bringing in guys like Ben, Jawon and others in the portal. I'm a broken record that I want to see us get to that top tier in the MAC and I think he can do that if he gets aggressive on the defensive side with the portal this offseason.

The most fascinating thing to see about the portal is how it not inly impacts recruiting (in our case, I think CC is leaving spots open for portal which explains the low numbers) but also how it impacts in-game strategy. Can you get away with plying only one QB all season anymore? Look at at UofM.....If they dont give McCarthy reps, he could leave. In our case, I like the idea of playing Ben and Hutch because I think Hutch is good but I'm still not sure if Ben is coming back next year and we cant afford to lose Hutch to other pastures if he doesnt feel wanted this year.

Good coaches will adjust to the new system. Bad ones won't. Small sample size but CC has gained more in the portal than he lost.

Agree. Neathery and CC need to hit the JUCO or portal for LB's this offseason. It is a GLARING issue with this team. The secondary isnt great but they are young and will get better. I would bring in 3-4 D.E.'s/L.B.'s

Has anyone read some of the comments from Toledo fans? A lot of them are pissed at Candle and want him fired. CC and crew need to take advantage of this. EMU needs to start pulling in more kids that Toledo is used to getting.

Yeah but guess what just as many WMU fans are not happy with Lester at WMU either. Having fans angry at coaches doesn't seem to impact a players choice of schools. It may impact their perception of the program though and how long a coach will be around. Toledo is looking for a new AD and so is WMU who rebrands itself every 5 minutes. I think the new ADs are the biggest threat to Candle and Lester. Of course since CC signed an extension the players we recruit have some confidence that CC will be around at EMU. Of course some folks around here weren't happy about that either.

It still amazes me that two thirds of our starting receivers currently began as walk ons on this team.

Indeed! Creighton does well with wide outs, in 2016 we had nobody and he brings in Bailey, Porter, Sexton and Niupalau. Beydoun is actually our most valuable offensive weapon, Creighton will regret his decision to use him on 2018 special teams when he should have been redshirted. Who knew?

Also Qian made a good decision leaving for Buffalo. He is having a season at Buffalo that he would not have had in Ypsilanti. Creighton can identify WR talent, now I just would like that focus to be on linebackers.

'79 I am one of those guys who is not happy about the extension BUT I certainly am sanguine with my coach. Why? I listened to a Jim Rome interview with Lance Leipold when he coached at Buffalo and here is what he said:

"When your W-L record is poor, the recruiting competition will claim you are going to be fired regardless of of your contract length and when you win a Championship they will assert that you will soon be gone to a bigger program. A contract extension is in essence, inconsequential with regards to recruiting".

Lance, of course, did move on to Kansas and the P5 as most successful MAC coaches do. I laugh when I hear that a G5 school has "locked in" their coach with a big contract as none of them actually has the financial resources to do so. Lance, PJ Fleck and Nate Oats are proof of such as they left shortly after receiving lucrative by MAC standards contract extensions.

That is why I am opposed to ANY extension beyond two additional seasons from the current one. Chris Creighton clearly has been EMU's best hire in the University's NCAA era with the exception of Ben Braun and possibly Jim Harkema. Nevertheless I see ZERO reason to commit four additional contract years to him. If Mel Tucker heads to LSU and EMU goes 9-3 this season, Chris Creighton will be again coaching the "green and white", just in East Lansing.

Agreed. But in this case, doesn’t the extension get EMU a better buyout?

Yes!!! I was thinking the same too. I thought we had that detail of CC contract here.

I thought the reset buyout number was high but forgot.

EDIT: me and my friend Google, come to the rescue (quote is from Det. News):

"Creighton's buyout — his name often gets floated in the coaching-carousel rumor mill — starts at $750,000 and drops to $400,000 for the fourth year of the deal. It is 50% of his remaining salary should he leave in December 2025, after the fifth season of the deal, and nothing if he leaves after that."

Excellent comment on the buyout. I think I and others said its basically almost a no risk on the extension. Say CC goes 9-3 this year and gets offers which he will at that record (even more so if we win a bowl game). He leaves and EMU now collects $750k. And CC is one of the lower paid coaches in the MAC. Right now I believe if we go to a bowl he gets a bonus, he may get a bonus for attendance and depending on the number of wins and were we finish he gets a bonus as well if memory serves me right. Oops forgot he gets a bonus on academic gpa. To me this a great contract for him and for EMU. It puts the right incentives in place for both coach and the school.

I think the new ADs are the biggest threat to Candle and Lester. Of course since CC signed an extension the players we recruit have some confidence that CC will be around at EMU. Of course some folks around here weren't happy about that either.

Outstanding points regarding the buyout from James, Steve and Tom. You guys are indeed spot on. Give Wetherbee his due for backstopping such a long extension with an intelligent buyout scheme.

I suppose I still have the bad taste in my mouth of the Murphy extension after the 2017-18 season. Those were the least productive of his EMU career and we were stuck with an unengaged coach who was "mailing it in".

Can't picture MSU hiring CC. Feel like they'd want someone higher profile - Fickell, Campbell, someone of that ilk.
