Coach Niumatalolo comes off as a likable guy. I'm sure he'll get Navy fighting again.

I respect him as a coach but in his effort to "protect his players" from COVID with touch/flag football practices he set his team up to get humilated on national tv because they were nowhere in the ballpark of game conditioned. He probably lucked out that no one on his team got a serious injury as a result.

Those Cadets have a bigger mission then football. Just saying.

It was the coach's decision. His assistants expressed concerns about how this would prepare the team for the season. Do you know of any other FBS programs that prepared for the season in this manner? Army had full contact practices. Do other universities including our own beloved UC not care about player safety? It's football man. That is is the mission of a football team to prepare and compete at the highest level. Again, I respect Coach N but I don't agree with his decision.

Yep, the coaches decision. You said humiliated on national TV. Pretty sure what I replied was correct. And you are right. It's just football, man.

55-3. Yep, humilating defeat. Ask Navy fans. Football is actually a full contact sport. To treat it any differently has never been done before as far as I'm aware. I'm thankful our program did full workouts to prepare our kids mentally and physically to be ready to roll for the season ahead. I'm thankful our coach wants his players and team to have the best chance to succeed and try to advance to the CFP. I'll bet everyone but Navy did the same thing. It's just football.

First, they aren't "cadets." "Cadets" attend the USMA at West Point. They are Midshipmen.

Second, it's a proverb in all the service branches: "You fight like you train so we train like we fight." And so, hopefully the lesson was hard-learned by the Midshipmen and coaches alike. But especially the Midshipmen since they are the naval officers of the future.

I don't see Navy skipping contact in practice as being defensible, really. You're already in close quarters, and if you're doing things the right way, the risk of an outbreak in the program should be low to begin with. It was a terrible decision.

If you're so concerned about COVID that you eliminate contact in practice, why are you flying around the country making contact with people from outside your "bubble?" Navy should have just sat out this year based on the way they have approached the season.

RE: 2020 College Football Season Thread
So let us examine the logic. Navy could not risk interaction within it's own players, but was willing to interact with players from BYU?

That makes little sense.

If Coach N. was that worried he should have not played this year.

Interesting case isn't it? Somehow I think the arrow is pointing down for Houston's program right now. Will Holgs be Houston's version of Tubs? This season may tell us a lot.

People thought he was playing chess while we were playing checkers...turns out he was just trying to hide the pieces up his nose.
