For example, Tennessee is currently sitting at 2–5 with games still to play (lose) against Florida and Texas A&M. That 2-5 record wouldn’t look nearly as bad, and their computer numbers would be greatly inflated had they gotten their 3 annual body bag games against Charlotte, Furman, and Troy that were cancelled due to Covid.

If Michigan still had Arkansas State and Ball state on the schedule, 2-4 right now wouldn’t look so bad and their computer numbers would be helping conference mates.

Those annual buy games not only fund small/broke programs, but they help to prop up entire P5 conferences by inflating records and computer rankings.
This is exactly right. I've said for years when people said eventually the P5 would break away that they need the G5 and 1AA to inflate their records. Hard to ask for donations when you're winning 3-4 games a year. Not to mention the pressure it puts on to change coaches and most of these guys have obscene buyouts. Mid to lower P5s definitely need these out of conference wins for perception.

This my first thought early in the season when conference only schedules were announced. It also had propped up G5 and Indy schools who don’t have to take buy games with biased officials that sabotage there teams early in the year. I believe 12 out of the 36 receiving votes in AP are non power conference members.

This year had really benefited the American, C-USA, and the Sun Belt who avoided taking games at SEC heavyweights which would have set their teams development back. The Big Ten, PAC-12, MWC, and MAC have been hurt the most by starting late.

I’ve maintained for many years that those of us that have been following UC football for a long time have a pretty good grasp on the fine line between the AAC and the non-elite P5. That is to say the best schools in the AAC are just as good as that mid-tier and in some cases an opportunity away from having a higher ceiling. The reason we understand this so well is because we have seen UC play as an Independent, in CUSA, in the Big East and now the AAC. People that follow P5 schools have, for the most part, only seek their school play in one conference their entire lives, and live by the blinders “If my team were in the AAC, we’d win the conference most years.” (Hello UK fans... is this mic on?)

Iowa State has the best record in the Big 12, 7-2. They lost at home to Louisiana 31-14. It seems every year a MAC team beats a Big Ten team and 99% of those games are played @ BIG stadiums.

RE: 2020 College Football Season Thread
Ohio State not out of the woods yet to play Saturday...

Quote:As we write this on Monday, it remains unclear whether or not Ohio State will be cleared to play Saturday’s game at Michigan State as scheduled.

OSU coach Ryan Day has tested positive for Covid-19 and likely would not be cleared in time to coach in the game. Defensive line coach Larry Johnson was designated as the acting head coach in Day’s absence. Johnson would have served in that role at Illinois this past weekend, but that game was canceled due to rising positivity rates within the OSU football team and staff community.

Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith on Saturday that the program will pause all in-person football activities. Smith said OSU will continue daily testing in hopes of containing the spread of the virus. The hope is for the team to get back on the practice field later this week.

No Big Ten team that has canceled one game has been able to come back and play a game the following week. That could create an issue for the Buckeyes (4-0) since the Big Ten is requiring teams to play at least six games to qualify for the conference championship game. They would only play one more scheduled game, the Dec. 12 season finale at home against Michigan. (Of course, Michigan announced today it, too, has paused team activities due to rising positivity rates in that program.)

Even if the Buckeyes can’t make the conference championship game, they would be scheduled to likely play the No. 2 team from the West Division – perhaps Wisconsin or Iowa – on Dec. 19 at a site to be determined.

It should be noted that the College Football Playoff committee has not set a minimum number of games needed to qualify for the playoff. At 6-0, Ohio State could still be a candidate for a playoff berth.

Will They Play Saturday?

I don't see how that's "exposing" a "shell game."

Those Charlotte & Troy type games are literally every game on Coastal Carolina's schedule. The only P5 they faced was 0-8 Kansas.

This year showed why out-of-conference games are necessary to demonstrate the SEC's dominance. Without them, you have decent teams like Tennessee and South Carolina at 2-7.

In 2017, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt combined for 11-1 out-of-conference and 1-23 against the SEC (not counting Vandy beating Tennessee). "Out of conference" included 5 wins over bowl-eligible teams (including 8-5 Kansas State) as well as over 5-6 Georgia Tech. The only loss was to #9 TCU.

That same year, Mississippi State was 4-4 against the SEC and 5-0 in out-of-conference, including a win over 8-5 Louisville. It earned them a #19 ranking at the end of the year.

In 2018,4 SEC teams that were each 5-3 in-conference went 19-1 out-of-conference, including wins over 3 teams who ended the season ranked and 11-3 UAB (9 bowl-eligible teams). SEC also-ran Auburn (3-5 in-conference) also destroyed their non-conference slate, going 5-0 with wins over 10-4 Washington and 6-7 Purdue by 49 points in their bowl game.

What a PC joke. 30 yard squib gets Player of the Week. Should be Player of the Weak.

She kicked the ball and ran to the sidelines. I hope next time a player quickly blocks and pancakes her.

The Southeastern Conference has named Vanderbilt kicker Sarah Fuller as the league's co-special teams player of the week after she made history becoming the first woman to play in a Power 5 conference football game.

Fuller shared the award Monday with Florida punt returner Kadarius Toney after the senior soccer player served as Vanderbilt's primary kicker in a loss to Missouri. She sent a squib kick 30 yards that was covered at the Missouri 35 to open the second half in her only chance to kick.

The Vanderbilt kicker became the third woman to play at the Football Bowl Subdivision level, joining Katie Hnida who was the first scoring two extra points for New Mexico on Aug. 30, 2003 and April Goss who had an extra point for Kent State in 2015.

Fuller is continuing to practice with Vanderbilt, which visits No. 11 Georgia on Saturday. Fuller helped Vanderbilt win the Southeastern Conference women's tournament title on Nov. 22.

Would have liked to see a meaningful kick, like an extra point.
As a soccer goalie I never made a squib kick, on purpose that is.
For 30 yards you throw the ball. Good luck Sarah. I hope the Bearcats can play Vandy sometime, but not very likely.

ESPN Gameday Dec 5 is going to Conway, SC for a Sunbelt game
Liberty at Coastal Carolina.

When is Cincinnati´s turn? I know Herbie has been to Cincinnati a lot. His father is a big Reds fan.

I hope they stay away until the pandemic is over and UC can have fans at the broadcast. That being said, I'm guessing UC would tell them no this year with all the restrictions they have on people coming to campus.

Recognizing a 30yd kick does overshadow the other plays made by other players.
Did anyone do anything more significant on the field? Certainly. Is is fair they get ignored for a female performing a mediocre play? Not in my opinion.

It was such a unique situation. Their other kickers weren't available. Needed someone. She stepped up (and kicked once lol because Vandy was so freaking bad). I just don't understand getting upset over this.

If I were a player it may rub me the wrong way. But take it for what it is...Crappy team with no wins and a staff about to be fired....get some positive coverage any way you can get it even if it’s a bit of a sideshow.
