Imho, there's a national gloom that's settled in that puts the damper on a lot of things.
I've spent a lot more time with my family (engaged with them) and much less time in front of the TV. I've read more, had more family meals, and really remembered to focus on the big things. The small stuff, I'm not so worried about that anymore and sports has moved from a big thing in my life to a small thing.

Same here, sports and news were top priority after family, in 2020 I have not watched a single sporting event or watched any news since March... Turns out i'm happier and a lot more productive, family was always there.

Canceling games and shutting down practice for COVID, yet sanction a student athlete protest on campus where 150 athletes and coaches show up, make up your mind ECU.

It's no difference than limiting gatherings to 25 in NYC and then allowing a protest of 1,500 vandals and looters to go unchecked, what is happening is absolutely irrational and illogical... Hopefully some day soon common sense will prevail again.

Was it officially sanctioned? People always say stuff like "you can't go to a football game, but you can protest", but it's not like they are selling tickets to a protest, people just show up. Just like all of us could just show up at the stadium and stand in the parking lot with no game.
Anyway, I'm fine with it. They did it on their day off, no violence or other nonsense, and they should be back on the grind today.

I'll just post what I posted on the ECU board.
Wish coach could get his message of love & equality out w/o endorsing BLM..
I'm rare because I don't particularly lean too far left or right. But anytime a political movement is created and pursued by questioning opponents morality to the point that it uses public sentiment/pressure to make others fall in line or risk being ostracized or even become susceptible to losing their jobs you have to know that's wrong. A lot of people that support BLM have good intentions but if you sincerely believe that defunding the police will actually hurt poverty stricken communities more than it will help them, now you are labeled as a racist. I never thought there would ever be this big of a rift and stark dichotomy in America in my life time.

Seems like they just met, spoke their minds, had a dialog with ECU police, and went home. No violence, looting, etc.
I would also find it difficult pushing love/equality while not believing that black lives matter as much as any others. I get that the official "Black Lives Matter, Inc" or whatever seems to be questionable, but the message of the players that they deserve to live as much as anyone else isn't a terribly unreasonable thing to ask for.

See this is my point. The movement conflates the issues to the point where even people that largely agree are now taking issue with one another. The danger that I perceive is that when people are compelled to join a movement out of fear or by someone questioning their morals as opposed to using reason and logic then that creates a slippery slope. Many people feel that you can't believe that black lives matter as much as any other without supporting the BLM movement itself. I see that as undue influence & coercion forcing the public's hand to promote a political platform even if certain individuals sincerely oppose the policy out of love and in an actual effort to promote equal opportunity.

Just go talk to one of the student athletes. I'm just speculating here, but it seems like all the stuff people keep saying about "this is what their motives are" and "this is what blah blah really stands for" aren't getting that info from the horses mouth.
Just my $.02.
