Fickell extended through 2026
The extension pays Fickell $3.4 million a year starting with the 2020 season through 2026. All of the extension is funded through private donations & fundraising, according to UC athletic director John Cunningham & the UC Board of Trustees. #Bearcats

Yep. He's already turned down WVU and Michigan State, but that won't stop fans from other schools of continuing to spout nonsense about how he's gone when the next P5 gig opens up. Fickell isn't leaving unless it's a select handful of jobs. Dude isn't going to Purdue or Syracuse.

What about Michigan? Or is he too much of Buckeye?

He would certainly listen. But yeah, it would be hard for me to see him doing it due to his Buckeye roots. The interesting thing about Fickell is that he ultimately seems to leave the decision up to his wife, carefully considering the effect uprooting his family will have. If Luke interviews for a job in a place Amy doesn't want to move the family to, he won't take it.

Yeah I think he would turn it down on principal. He is UC’s coach and is now one of us, but he still is born and bred a Buckeye. Woody Hayes had a quote about if he was running out of gas on the state line he’d rather let it run out and push the car over the state line. Fick has that mindset.

Personally the schools to watch are OSU, Notre Dame and PSU. He could not pass those up. He’s already turned down Sparty and WVU and going to UK or Indiana would be worse situations than going to UC given their position in their conferences. He’s not the type of guy to leave the area and go to a school down south or out west IMHO.

Why is everybody saying he's gone next year? I think Fickell proved he's not typical coach, but besides that, What does signing an extension have to do with an immediate exit?

Everything says their coach is not a typical coach and is committed to the school until the coach leaves them for more money like every other coach. He gone, but may be a couple years.

Literally every program in college football save for about 10-15 schools has this issue though. AAC posters don't need to automatically rain on the Cincy parade. This is great news for Cincy and the AAC.

With BC#1 as a fan, you would think Cinci fans would have thicker skins.

Speaking of which, you’ve been working him too hard at the Dairy Whip. He doesn’t even have time anymore to stop by and post.

He's been at Joliet since January. I need to see when his parole hearing is.

The conference got a huge mulligan with the Flubs disaster. Get used to your place in the standings.

Houston got this treatment with Herman, UCF with Frost, and Memphis with Fuente and Norvell. Its kind of like a right of passage. I just hope that if yall make a NY6 bowl with, he at least stays to coach the bowl.

I think logically, he's at least around for this year and next. Because, who is going to fire their coach after this type of season? And what coach in their right mind is going to take a job at a place that fires their coach after this type of season?

So, I think we have him for at least 2 more years, then we start watching again. I could see him around for 3 for sure.

UC fans are well aware of how vicious the cycle can be... we lost Mark Dantonio, Brian Kelly and Butch Jones before you guys were even in this conference.

Per the Athletic it looks like the assistant pool got a significant bump as well
