Edit: Goes without saying that this is a great signing and glad to get it done. Ryan Day made 4.5m a year at tOSU so this may be enough to make it that much harder for him to leave for any subpar B1G program.

Not that I thought he was going anywhere or solely motivated by money, but this really goes a long way in making UC the ideal fit for this particular coach when you consider the whole situation. There are still a lot of schools were he could make a little more, but not so many where he could make a lot more and even fewer of them that seem like a great match on both sides.

Hopefully Cunningham also found a nice chunk of do-re-mi for the assistants as well. That would really have us set up for continued and even increased success moving forward.

Agree. He is almost always going to jump at schools like tOSU and Notre Dame, but as long as we can keep the salary somewhat close then that takes one more factor out of the way and reduces the potential suitors to that small list of Top Tier programs like tOSU, ND, etc... that he was going to leave for regardless of the salary.

I repeat my neighbor has a son in law that is Assoc AD at Columbus State and CLF wants to stay 10 years at least unless. The unless are Columbus State or ND. He is a midwest guy and smart enough to understand that. What jobs are likely to be of interest besides ND and Columbus State? IU might pay a bit more, IL same, PU same. MSU no once no twice. PSU would concern me. MN he could watch it burn. Iowa?

If they value quality of life IA, PU, IL, IU, Nebraska, etc. leave much to be desired.

With the new contract, it severely limits the number of schools I’m worried about. Penn State, tOSU, and ND are the schools that immediately come to mind in the Midwest. Not sure how he would view a move south or west, but it would have to be a program on the upper tier at least comparable to Penn State before I got worried.

Excellent job by the AD and the donors. As for Fick leaving, he could never say no to tO$U or ND. Of course. Ped State and Wisconsin would be pretty tempting. Other than that, he’s staying.

I'm kidding but only UC fans lament our coach potentially leaving for another program on the same day that the university extends him to 2026 with a big raise LOL.

Relax gents and just enjoy the moment.

Does anyone outside of students pay to watch any liberal arts profs? About half of McMicken College of A&S should be terminated.

Do you expect anything different from Doss? He's the board's most blatant troll.

Does anyone pay to watch any professors besides students? Is there some big market for watching UC engineering professor's lectures that we should be marketing?

Unless Youk pulled a Ryan Reynolds and sold his beer business for a half a billion recently, i doubt any of the above have the kind of money to be able to drop $15M for a coach ($1m/ year for Fick, $1.3M/year for coaches pool for 6 years). Thats either someone with VERY deep pockets like a Lindner, John Barrett, etc. or it was a coalition of quite a few.

To be fair, I thought it was mentioned in the contract that part of the salary came from private donations and if those donations were no longer available the AD would have to renegotiate the salary down. That implies they didn’t get the full amount of the salary yet but must have commitments from certain people to donate X amount.

I'm sure it was a coalition - was wondering if anybody had heard if athletic alums might have been in on it. There is interest from all three of those guys and Youk was looking to donate...when they talked about putting his name on the stadium, but he didn't want it next to Marge's name.

I know you are joking, but what I am doing is the exact opposite. I feel like this gives us the most security we could expect and provided good stability.
