Why 12 Feet?
I understand the need for social distancing at sporting events, but where did 12 feet come from? The CDC, Health Dept., and everyone else has said 6 feet was the distance needed between people to limit the spread of the virus. I could see being extra cautious and adding a couple more feet to that, but how did they land on 12 feet? Is there a scientific basis for that distance that has been referenced?

Why 12 Feet?
There is no medical or research-backed reason for 12 ft. The Shelby County Health Department just picked a nice round number out of the air.

Even if we owned the building and land, they could shut us down.

Actually there is. Has to do with force and velocity overcoming resistance. 6ft is safe in a passive environment and 12 ft with typical force exhibited in cheering, screaming at referees and booing players demeaning Ole Miss whether we are playing them or not.

In other threads, I posted two studies about singing in an enclosed space from the University of Colorado and a German study. One concluded 6ft was safe even for the strongest singers, and another 7.5 ft. 12ft is ridiculous and there is no research behind that number.

You said “Actually there is” in regards to medical or research backed data for the 12ft of distance requirement. I simply asked for a link, not sure what age has to do with it by asking for support to a claim, you stated, has medical research backing it up?

Again, link? I’ll hang up & listen.

Except for the select few, I really have no problem with everyone staying twelve feet away from me.

Yes the Shelby Co Health Dept should prove why they chose 12 feet.

Don’t be lazy. You can find all kinds of research on it . One study suggested 15 feet.

Why do you think they focus on sneezing and coughing so much?

The only thing I can find that says 12 ft is someone with COVID coughing, and no one is wearing a mask. They only provoked the fluid can go that far, not that anyone can catch it.

RE: Why 12 Feet?
Why don't you just go ask Fraulein Haushalter? She mumbled something about that today when she addressed the Shelby County Commission and was asked why 12 feet. Apparently, she thinks she has some studies about that. i do know there is a new study that I can't pull up right now that proved the virus can travel 15 feet; but whether it is viable at that distance, they don't know.
