He had committed to UCF before decommitting and go to the JUCO. He will be a sophomore in the fall.

Some what of a moot point but why did he only play 4 games at the start of his season and they wasn't on the roster after that? Seems like that Juco could have used him even if he was coming off the bench.

Well, Marchelus Avery only played in four games at Northwest Florida this past season. But also the Aggies, Mario McKinney only played in nine games at John A. Logan College; and, Ishan White only played in eight games at Polk State; however his season was cut short due to a shoulder injury. So NMSU has a number of signees who were sidelined for various reasons in 2021.

Hmm. This doesn’t make me feel good. Not one bit...

Injury to end your season isn't great at all but still doesn't make sense why he isn't on last seasons team roster. Regardless this tweener has the make up of being Jones 2.0.

This is the life for most good mid-major programs. There is a risk/reward factor in signing some top level P5 talent. Zach Lofton went to five other schools prior to landing at NMSU. And, Trev Queen left Western Kentucky in the summer prior to enrolling at NMSU. Some really good players have checkered playing histories. It takes a full commitment by the player and the right coach to get the best out of them for the player, coach and school to benefit. It worked out well with Lofton and Queen; but for some other players NMSU is just another stop on their bumpy college journey. We will see if NMSU's latest recruits stick it out with Jans or continue their vagabond ways. But obviously, Jans feels the rewards out weighs the risk with his latest signees.

New Mexico State and Chris Jans just landed a big time transfer.

Another high risk high reward commitment for NMSU. Jans is the ultimate ALPHA in our program. If these new players understand that and toe the line, they will have successful Aggie careers.

I gave Chris Jans hell after the season but overall right now he has put together a pretty solid recruiting class. If we can add McCants and Tillman back then we should have a pretty good basketball team.

Without knowing if Tillman and or McCants returns, this guy feels GCU is still the favorite...

Teddy Allen talent isn't the issue and Jans looks for these types of players all the time. It reminds me of how the Patriots Seahawks and now Bucs are doing with taking a risk to see if they can fix what others haven't been able to do. Most the time it doesn't turnout anything but when it does it's worth all the trouble. Hopefully for Timmy Allen he figures it out.

I'm rooting for Teddy. He's from Mesa, AZ. Was sent to a Nebraska all boys schools for troubled youth after being kicked out of three high schools. I hope he is getting the help he needs for his anger issues. We all know his movement in college. I am seriously rooting for him though. He's a bucket, no doubt. Teddy had trouble with Greg Marshall and Jan's is in his mold. Hope something clicks for Teddy this go around. It's probably his last chance in basketball anyway.

This kid averaged nearly 17 points per game playing in the BIG 12 so he is going to be a big time scorer for NMSU next season. He ain't the scrub that GCU signed lol

I agree with this, Lopes. This is probably his last chance, which can be the push that helps the player fit the mold a bit. We shall see. The upside is really good, if he ever suits up, or plays for NMSU.

GO AGGIES!!!!!

Well, this season, with so many spots available, might as well load up. Players like Allen can either get with the system or move on.

I'd love to see more actual freshmen starting in the program and sticking around, but those days are mostly gone. In the meantime, I like the cast we've got assembled.

Two minor corrections for Tarleton, Luckey and Conerway will be coming in as freshmen as they only played one year of Juco and the year doesn’t count for eligibility.

This kid averaged nearly 17 points per game playing in the BIG 12 so he is going to be a big time scorer for NMSU next season. He ain't the scrub that GCU signed lol

Big 10 not Big 12, also tell Teddy to keep his hands off women while at NMSU...

I mean if Jans can find a way, maybe he can share some tips

While I know it was meant as a bit of a joke, I think there could be something there? While the incidents were COMPLETELY different (one based in anger, the other not), I think being able to connect with a coach that he himself has been given a second chance and has thrived may resonate where others may not have.

I don't know...it is all speculation at this point, but for the young man's sake, I hope it happens. And yes, selfishly, for the team that I follow it would be a big help if he could also perform on the court. 02-13-banana

GO AGGIES!!!!

Sorry, got a little comma happy. Hopefully it reads a bit better.

I'm sure you are right. But I used the classifications from Verbal Commits and move each players up a year in eligibility like in a normal year. But I am aware many of the player's eligibilities will probably shift back a season or two once official rosters come out. The COVID waiver has wreaked havoc on knowing what a player views his eligibility to be.

For NMSU, Marchelus Avery also has an opportunity to enter NMSU as a freshmen after coming from a year in Junior College. And, of our returning players, Jabari Rice should still be considered a RS-Junior with the NCAA waiver. But his is now entering his 5th year at NMSU academically. Will he play two more season at NMSU as the NCAA allows? Or will he graduate on time and leave NMSU after this upcoming season; foregoing a 6th year of eligibility? With the NCAA waiver the next four years worth of player classifications will be muddled between a player's remaining basketball eligibility and their academic progress toward graduation.

NMSU has put together a pretty solid recruiting class from top to bottom. Returning McCants and Tillman would be icing on the cake.
