Todor, it's fine to be excited. Put yourself in the shoes of the posters of this board. They all come here for WAC info on all teams, not to see excessive posts about one team (NMSU). I think that Aggie Alert is the board for excessive posts about NMSU. I suspect you (and me, among others) would not take too kindly if say, GCU posters mentioned a new recruit and then went on and on ranting and raving about the recruit, posting videos about him and just being over the top about him. That's what we NMSU posters do. And that is why we have gotten the ire of a lot of folks on the WAC board.

Appreciate your efforts to understand, PojoaquePosse. I guess at the end of the day, no one else is obligated to do the same. It's just gets a little tiresome when all conversational roads lead to either the assertion/justification of NMSU greatness or downplaying/dismissing the successes of other. For people who only participate on a message board for those specific reasons, conversations like these make perfect sense. For the rest of us, it's exhausting.

You GCU fans are some sensitive ass fans. That's why you'll never be a rival on the levels of UNM, UTEP, and Utah State. It's why NMSU will never consider you guys a rival. You guys don't know how to act.

Okay, Frank.

That's rich. A caveman that is telling others how to act. Talking trash to GCU fans after GCU took NMSU to the woodshed this year.

Why do so many of these threads delve into name-calling? This is why I do not post often.

You are correct, as long as you follow the terms and conditions of the Message Forum, you can post what you want, and when you want to. But that does not preclude the fact that other people can post the same.

I would like to know what a "real" Aggie fan is then? Is it someone who shows depth in their discussion? A vast amount of knowledge about the subjects, teams, etc? Or someone who only posts emotional thoughts to inflame other posters? I would like to know how you define it. It is impossible to understand your point without that definition. Calling another poster fake because they disagree with your ideas is not conducive to a discussion.

From an outside perspective I don't see anything wrong with it. On the Sun Belt board we all seem to celebrate each others recruiting news since if it benefits an individual team it benefits us all. Rising tides, boats, and what not, but I guess not all conference boards are the same. CUSA dudes get all kinds of upset when we comment on their threads discussing our schools lol. Kinda wierd how each board has a different vibe.

This thread is to talk about WAC basketball commitments. So that's what I'm going to continue to do. How we reported our latest commitment is how we've been reporting commitments since before this current WAC was put together. I'm not going to change what we've done since 2006 because a few GCU fans are sensitive as hell.

I personally have no issue with that at all. I like seeing how fans of teams react to their commitments and their comments about how the new recruits will fit into their team. Please keep posting them. Not living in the footprint of the WAC now, this is really the only place I can get information about the conference.

RE: 2021-22 WAC Basketball Commitments...
The second their seasons are over, fans of nearly every team deserted this place, except to tell Aggie fans they said too much about a recruit over the course of a whopping hour and a half. Good grief. It wasn't like it was 3 months into the conversation and they had truly heard enough.

The person who had ZERO posts about recruiting had numerous snide comments about Aggie recruiting in order to stop the discussion, instead of logging out, going to another thread, hitting the ignore button on posters they don't want to hear from, or just moving on with life. Keep up the Aggie talk and let the others catch up if they choose to.

RE: 2021-22 WAC Basketball Commitments...
If I feel over excitement about a new commitment it should not out of bounds to express that. Even a little trash talking is OK as long as it doesn't get personal. If Aggie fans want to talk about a player, post videos, etc. for multiple posts, they should not be maligned for it. Every schools fan has the same latitude to do the same. And, healthy debate is good. I for one have been posting every WAC programs commitments for years. And if there is an excitement about any specific players that's great. I like seeing that kind of passion about a sport. I do not fault the Texas schools for there love of football and the multiple threads surrounding it. The only area in sports related subjects where I have chimed in is the far fetched hypothetic conference alignment talk; which has nothing factual to do with the WAC. Otherwise, to each his own.

NMSU gets a commitment from Washington transfer guard Nate Pryor, a 6'4, 175-lbs, JR. He averaged 4.1 ppg and 1.3 rpg in a reserve role.

He averaged 18 PPG and 16 PPG his two years at North Idaho. He does bring good size at the PG spot.

Interesting.

Last season, NMSU was getting beaten up by opposing point guards. Most WAC PGs were having career games against our Aggie man-to-man defense. All our PGs were undersized last season. Its just my opinion, but I think Jans is bringing in Pryor to shore up the PG position defensively. He brings length and maturity to the position. I just hope he will have a little more offensive punch in his game coming to NMSU. We will see what Jans is thinking next season. He might be NMSU's version of Sean Miller-Moore; with respect to playing time.

To this point he isn't a great defensive guard and had struggles in UW's zone defense to boot. I've watched him since summer going into freshman year. He was a mad gunner in HS and turned it on on the NWAC while at NIC. Defense has never been on business card. I would expect whoever he is guarding will have nice games. All the UW transfers have been Dollar recruits and there was a clear divide between Dollar players and Hopkins. I hope for Nate he turns into a leader for NMSU and not a follower like at UW. I do really like him as a person, great kid. Jans and staff have the chops to get him in line no doubt but I'm not sold Nate will always buy-in.

As said, we will see. Trev Queen came to NMSU as a gunner. Jans turned him into a very good defender. Unless, NMSU has no other options, Pryor won't see much playing time unless he plays defense to Jans' expectations. Last season, NMSU had no size/length at the point guard position. Obviously, Jans thinks he can pull more talent out of Pryor than what he has shown at Washington in a Zone system.

Heck, Drew turned a lumbering big man who scored less than 2 ppg at Wichita State into a WAC 1st team performer, so anything is possible. Sometimes players are just stuck in the wrong system to excel.

RE: 2021-22 WAC Basketball Commitments...
Quick NCAA rules question here. I remember a few years ago (10 or so) that NMSU had a QB named Royal Gill. He started at SFA, transferred to Pima CC, then to NMSU. When he did not get the starting job, he transferred somewhere else, then to SUU. He lost his senior season of eligibility due to too many transfers or something like that. My question is, is there still a limit on the number of schools someone can attend? Or has the NCAA just given up on that?

They have put some rules in place for transferring. But everything now hinges on APR (academic progress) these days. If the players stays on pace or ahead of pace to graduate, the NCAA usually doesn't penalize a player more than one year for transferring too many times. NMSU's Zach Lofton attended San Jacinto JC (2012-13), Illinois State (2013-14), transferred to Minnesota (sat out 2014-15, dismissed in from Minnesota while redshirting), transferred to Texas Southern (2016-17), graduated and transferred to New Mexico State (2017-18). With all the school changes, he still managed to stay on pace to graduate so he was only penalized a year for his transfer from Illinois State to Minnesota.

The next thing to probably change is the one-time transfer rule. If a player has not transferred prior and is in good academic standing, they can transfer and play immediately at their new school. Only a second transfer would require a player to sit out a season and so on. If a player graduates within four years and have not expended their playing eligibility, they can become a grad transfer and play immediately at another school. I think the NCAA is trying to put some requirements in place like the new school needs to have a post graduate program that matches a player's four-year degree. So, players can't just transfer anywhere willy nilly.

Worth noting, a transfer in or out of a Juco doesn't count the same as a transfer between 4 year schools.

Thanks for the good info.

I though the rule on Grad Transfers was that the new school could not have a degree that the previous institution. I guess I am remembering the old rules.
