That's partially why I endorsed my 18 yr old daughter taking this year off before deciding if she wants to go to college next year.

Is this the likely outcome for all of us? Classes are scheduled to start at USF tomorrow, and the dorms look to be full...

Has this not been obvious for like the past 3 months? Nearly every one of the high schools around here that opened two weeks ago has been shut down and switched to virtual only. Don't understand what they thought would happen.

Yes, athletes are staying on campus. Still planning on playing Marshall in a few weeks.

This will be really interesting to see the effects of decisions like this. Won't be this year (maybe) but when the inevitable court case comes up about paying players ... it's going to used as a prime example of how "athletes are not like other students" and therefore deserve different treatment (i.e. payment)

Other students can stay as well though. Basically anyone who wants to stay just has to request to stay. They said all requests will be approved unless the person has a record of violating COVID protocols.

Interim Chancellor said it was on exception bases. For instance, international & hardship cases, etc.
ECU Interim Chancellor says, "We've got a game scheduled Sept. 12 against Marshall, we are playing it!" He said this emphatically as if there is no way we're not playing it, although he cautioned that it will be at limited capacity. (See link to video below)

I guess. I think it's more based on the requirement of your physical presence to actually play football. Same as a graduate chemistry student that needs to be in the lab. They aren't going to pay that student just because their concentration requires in-person instruction.

Also, it's not just football but all student athletes. Collegiate golfers and women's LAX aren't going to be getting paid. Many student athletes are happy with a full-ride scholarship.

This what is going on at Tulane, if you're interested . . .
Quote:Tulane Completes Widespread COVID-19 Testing, Reports 82 Positive Cases
https://www.wrkf.org/post/tulane-complet...tive-cases
Quote:On the last day of testing, Tulane had recorded 82 positive cases, according to an email sent to community members. The university administered more than 12,000 tests over 23 days and found 47 positive cases, representing a positivity rate of .39 percent. The remaining 35 cases were confirmed by outside healthcare providers.
ealth officials have recommended that communities maintain a percent positivity rate of 5 percent before loosening coronavirus restrictions. New Orleans’ average positivity rate has hovered around 2 percent for the last week.
Of the 82 cases, 13 are no longer active and 69 are currently in quarantine, according to the email. Tulane said those who had close contact with the positive cases are also in isolation, though an exact number was not given.
Tulane is the only New Orleans area college or university to conduct its own widespread testing, and did so through its Molecular Pathology Laboratory at the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine of Tulane University School of Medicine.

I saw that! The mayor of Tuscaloosa has closed the bars as of yesterday. Ironically, I think we only had 6 cumulative cases at UAB.
Not sure if we have just been lucky so far or we have less knuckleheads (probably the former). But seriously, I think they have done a pretty good job at UAB on enforcing the protocols. We'll see how the numbers change now that the campus is full again.
