I forgot that I had intended to respond to this...

UCF in that MAC- ASun arrangement circa 2002 is not even apples to oranges for Navy football-only in the AAC.
On one side of the equation, Navy football is top 25 in all time wins. An undeniable national brand. And not just back in nineteen-dickety-two - since 2003, only two losing seasons and multiple season-ending Top25 rankings, and plenty of "P5" and ranked scalps to claim.
On the other side of the equation, I humbly admit that Navy wouldn't add much value in sports other than football. David Robinson isn't going to walk through that door.

Meanwhile, the football dollars factor has skewed considerably in the intervening years. Look at the discussions of UConn's value within the media contract, when football is 70-80% of the media contract's value. VERY different situation from the Old Big East which began as a basketball conference, added football (before the value skewed to what it has today) and had an identity crisis near half and half.

I submit you could still add football-only schools like BYU, Air Force, Boise, maybe others and still not approach the identity crisis the Old Big East had leading up to the chaos of 2011-2013.
If people were talking about football-only App Syate or Georgia Southern just because of some recent successes, you might be right to compare that look to the bad look you cite.

Wichita State without football is good for the AAC. Navy football-only is good for the AAC. Navy MBB/WBB would be marginal gain if at all for the AAC.

I only read the first couple of posts in this, but losing Wichita State is a definite no go with me. I love football, but I've always been a basketball guy first. Wichita State brings a ton to this conference. A ton.

Wichita State in the AAC is great add. Navy for all sports, would be much less so. Navy FB only is great add. I really don't see any great ads for FB only right now. BYU isn't coming and no one else really moves the needle much. Boise was a flash in the pan, and the flame has gone out.

SDSU, with new stadium and baseball (Padres) will be over when football heats up.

Distance is not an issue with football other than maybe Hawaii.

If Wichita State ever leave the AAC it will be by their CHOICE. They are, otherwise, here to stay.

Replace CO.ST or Air Force with BYU and keep WSU....That might get us to P6 respectability. Throw Boise in there if you want. Doubt it matters

BYU is only interested in Big XII or PAC, they are not coming to the AAC unless AAC is true P6, at that point they can go and F^@k themselves.

West
Colorado State
Air Force
Tulsa
Navy
Houston
SMU

East
UCF
Memphis
USF
Temple
Cincinatti
ECU

Navy to the East and Memphis to the West and you'll have it.

RE: Colorado State & Air Force to AAC
Here’s another look for the AAC to consider:

16 in football—18 in Olympic sports

Football would be 2 divisions of 8 and Olympic sports in 3 pods of 6:

FB East: Temple, Navy, Cincinnati, Memphis, ECU, USF, UCF, Tulane
FB West: Tulsa, SMU, Houston, AFA, Colo St, BYU, Boise St, San Diego St

BB East: Temple, ECU, Cincinnati, USF, UCF, VCU*
BB Central: Tulsa, SMU, Houston, Tulane, Memphis, Wich St*
BB West: AFA, Colo St, BYU, Boise St, San Diego St, Gonzaga*

This is a great product for tv as the footprint is truly national.

Wouldn't mind, I truly hate BSU (Replace them with UNLV), BYU isn't coming (Replace with Nevada Reno).

Much stronger in BB Credits and much weaker in Football, but still formidable.

I dislike the smurf turf too but to make P6 a reality the AAC needs to absorb the Western US’s best programs and biggest brands and you can’t do that without BYU and Boise St

Sorry. If BSU wants to join, no blue turf. If ESPiN wants the merger, the AAC should have its preferences, not BSU's.
