ECU Pauses All Football Activities

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina University Director of Athletics Jon Gilbert announced Thursday that football activities are pausing indefinitely after evaluating results from the latest rounds of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) testing.

All affected individuals will be isolated based on medical guidelines. Contact tracing will be conducted for close contacts per University protocol and those identified individuals will be quarantined.

"Today's decision to pause all football activities comes in consultation with our medical staff after reviewing our latest test results," Gilbert said. "We will continue to monitor all of our student-athletes on campus and take all the necessary actions to follow all safety protocols established at the local, state and national levels."

This will only be the beginning. Soon all aac schools will be forced to cancel until the 2021 season.

Right on time. The ECU campus police had to shut down about 20 or 30 parties about a week ago. One party had 400 people attending.

Apparently it's pretty widespread on campuses. UNC had several "clusters" and has moved to all online classes. NC State just announced the same.

I’m a senior living off campus...

I know at least 50 students who’ve actually tested positive for the virus and a boat load more that we’re sick (minor) but never got tested. And nobody who does get tested actually reports it to the school besides maybe to a professor when they don’t want to go to class. Everyone just goes on with life as usual as soon as they don’t feel sick anymore. If they tested every student that lives on and off campus it would be eye opening. That being said, don’t know anyone who’s had anything that required any attention. Just the normal symptoms of a cough and fever.

Yeah, a season looks pretty unlikely.

When a borderline Seahawk has to sneek in a girl, or pro baseball players on numerous teams sneak out to go out on the town..what chance 18 year olds who are BMOC are staying at home when the bars and parties are raging with willing co-eds.

I think the programs that have a shot are AF, Army and Navy because they are in a bubble and are highly regimented already.

It's selfish. We're a capitalist country that encourages individuals and despises followers. I have also learned that being selfless in this country can get you destroyed. It's a ruthless world out there.
