I’m gonna save up my money so one day when we have an on-campus stadium I can take my flying car right up close to park.

UofM has its own BOR now and doesn't have to get permission anymore from city nor state to build.

The only thing the city could do is block the sale of the land to the UofM. But then the UofM can counteract by filing a discriminative lawsuit against the city.

There are legal ways around the city.

Caulkins has stated that even though we have our own board, the state will not allow the school to take on that kind of debt. The only way it happens if the school does a deal with the city sort of like the tennis facility. If that happens then the bowl game, SHC, and large concerts will be played at the new stadium. The school already owns the land Audubon park golf course is on so this is probably the most realistic plan

Caulkins is clueless of what he spews out. Just another media talking head.

The school doesn't own the land. They inquired about it a few years ago, but nothing came of it.

Calkins never said UofM owns the land at Audubon.

Speaking of Audubon Park, I’d like to see a partnership between UofM & the City to make improvements to the golf course and make it the UofM Golf Course where the teams could practice & hold matches. Students could play there at discounted rates. The course would also be open to the public as an upscale, but affordable public course.

I am already working on the re-design & have my shovel sharpened.

The has been talked about for a long time. We talked about it when I was in school 30 years ago.

I will believe it when I see it.

I know im in the minority but I dont want a 40k ocs. The Liberty Bowl is close enough to campus. I think the Liberty Bowl is a great venue. If anything I say tear down the Liberty bowl and build a 50k stadium in its footprint. (yes i know it will never happen)

RE: Within next 10 years Memphis will have an on campus stadium
I can't see the point of replacing a stadium that's 2 miles from campus with one that's 1 mile from campus. That's still not an OCS. You can't just buy some land somewhere and call it "on campus"; otherwise we could acquire the fairgrounds for much less than a new stadium and bingo - we have an OCS. Nor do I like the idea of an OCS on the South Campus. Most alums have no real connection to that site.

I also disagree that LBMS is beyond economical upgrades. Most college stadiums are upgraded incrementally. I think the place has improved greatly in the past ten years with Tiger Lane, renovated restrooms, chair backs, new video board, etc. More can be done and for far less than starting over. Some people may think the single-tier design is obsolete, but that hasn't caused Michigan, Notre Dame, USC, UCLA, Oregon, etc. to build all-new stadiums.

The current LBS will be 60 years old in a few years.

It can't last forever and the city is strapped for cash.

Besides, where would the Tigers play for approximately two seasons if they tore down the LBS to build a new one in it's current location?

If an university buys up land and develops facilities on it, it becomes a campus. Just like the Park Ave. is the south campus.

The golf course location would be the new mid campus.

The LBS has reached its peak. It's nice now, but we're talking 5-10 years from now where it will be. Out of date as newer technology for modern stadiums are passing up UofM and the LBS by miles.

Seriously, the LBS recent upgrades are nice, but they're a decade late.

Another thing, college football is changing yearly. Times are changing. No major programs are playing in city owned facilities. Temple and USF do but are making plans for OCS'.

What UofM has done and even gotten away with over the years by cutting corners in upgrades in the past won't work in the near future.

Otherwise we can start planning to downgrade to D2 level.

And I know Tiger Nation never wants to see that. Then we really would be "Tiger High".

The additional land would be a connection of the main campus and Park Ave. Complex on the south campus.

Baloney. There are ways to do it. What is lacking is the will.

Not happening on the main campus

Nope. No way they give up the little space remaining for football. Unless it gets a P5 invite, no way.

USC plays in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum which is owned by the City and County of Los Angeles. It’s also 97 years old.

That’s a pretty major program.

The size of the Liberty Bowl makes it harder to generate money, not easier. There are always far more tickets than demand, which limits what the university can charge per ticket.

This sounds great.

The area I'm concerned with nowadays, will a virus come that will affect the attendance, like Coronavirus did this year? And, if this trend of 6ft/12ft keeps happening regularly, doesn't that mean we have to change how we build our facilities? I hope not.

But, I ask this, to bring up the concern, let's see how our community reacts to the next "virus" and how it affects our sports attendance before we build. Then, we can build something that can accommodate those concerns. So that, we can have more than 4,000 people attend just because the city puts a 12ft policy in place.

True. But, our goal should be P5 and successful football is the only way that happens. That said, if we were in a conference like the Big 12 (our goal), then the current size is fine. Yearly match-ups with Oklahoma, Okie State, Iowa State, etc., and a sustained successful program and the LB would be sold out for every single game.

Gotta think forward and even if we were to build an on-campus stadium, the 40K capacity is stupid...assuming P5 is the goal.

To help generate money, any new stadium will need plenty of premium options and less seats.
