Not anymore for SC. They purchased their stadium & land surrounding it. It is now "on campus".

Good luck getting in the Big 12 with a 40k stadium.

Pretty sure any new OCS would be built with future expansion as a real option. Just in case anyone comes calling.

I doubt there are 40,000 at ANY game this year.

If you build it, you don't build it for "this year". You build it with the express intention of becoming a P5 program. And with that said, you don't build it with 40,000 and the ability to expand. You build it ready to roll at 60,000.

They let Baylor and TCU in with 45k capacity, so there’s that.

We shouldn't be afraid to get creative. Have the University buy Riverside Drive and put it on the Mississippi River. Visitor side tickets come with free floaties.

LBMS is more "on campus" than that stadium, lol.

The problem with that is the problem of revenue maximization. The thought is you make more money by limiting capacity that you can frequently sellout - requiring advance ticket purchases; moreso than having capacity that you can never sellout, which allows fans to wait until gameday to decide whether they want to buy a ticket or not.
We've had a 60k-ish stadium forever and no one has offered us a membership. Yet we've let so much revenue slip through by facilitating ticket buying procrastination that turns into it's too hot, it's too cold, I feel lazy, it's sprinkling rain, I got a better offer, etc.
Create ticket demand with a 40k stadium and then increase ticket prices.

Ike, I don’t mind setting it up but a GoFundMe account requires your SSN, banking info w/ acct #’s and your mailing address. Just pm that stuff to me and I’m on it.

Virtually all of downtown Columbia is the SC campus or related. Students, fans & visitors walk to the games, great atmosphere. And since SC now owns the stadium & surrounding land, it is on campus.

If the goal is to remain in the AAC, then yes.

Plenty of P5 stadiums with 45k or less capacity. As long as the pretend stadium is designed to be expanded as needed, I don’t see the issue.

Which P5 teams play in stadiums under 45,000?

Looks like five of them under 35k in the P5 (didn’t immediately see under 45k). Certainly not programs we want to emulate.

I counted eight with 45k & change (on this possibly outdated chart) for an average of 40,919. Not saying we want to emulate anyone. Only saying it happens. I will say we definitely don’t need a 60k OCS, not as a starting point. Some of the desire for an OCS is to get out of the behemoth we’re in.
Someone mentioned earlier that some fans don’t commit to season tickets because they know there will ALWAYS be tickets available. They can make a game day decision to attend or not, but would be more likely to attend if they’d already purchased season tickets. Of course, this is JMO and my opinion is subject to rebuttal, mocking, , , or being neg repped into oblivion. Just like everyone else here.

Asked and answered. A 45k-ish stadium with the ability to expand will not eliminate us from P5 consideration.
