“Masks” prevent droplets from spreading. So you’re telling me if I yell in a mask, the droplet magically disperses 11ft 11in (which I thought masks were the ultimate preventative and impenetrable), but if I just breathe in a mask it’s contained? It took some really intelligent docs to come up with this backward logic...

Lots of variables. Different kinds of masks have varying effects. What is known is wearing a mask reduces risk. If I wear a mask and you don’t I reduce your risk by 50%. If we both wear a mask then our risk is reduced by 75%. It might actually be 72% or 79%. Not a reason to quibble.

As to the distance it has to do with what you are doing. In casual situations walking by someone or talking casually 6ft is generally safe with everyone wearing masks. But if you are screaming you lessen the effects of the masks, droplets can travel greater distance and risk increases.

So it is science and logic. It’s never been 100% and it’s never been impenetrable. My resistance is different from yours. My contributing risk factors are different from yours. My age matters. My pre-existing conditions matter. My weight matters. My blood type may matter.

You want guarantees. Lock yourself in a safe for the next 6 months. Just don’t be one of those people spreads confusion rather than be part of the solution.

C-19 is a new disease strain. It is a mutation. We don’t know everything about it short-term or long. We may not find a cure. There many we can’t cure. We can learn how to treat it and we can build immunity, maybe annually like a flu vaccine.

The world population grows and the world shrinks bring us closer together in a shorter period of travel time. Pandemics will grow in numbers and intensity.

I'm hoping that this 6ft/12ft policy is NOT going to be the norm in the future.

The masks are NOT designed to stop a little tiny virus from getting out, but the virus is carried in respiratory aerosols. The masks stop the aerosols, they stop the virus.

Here are 2 studies... The second one is ridiculously in-depth:

Soooo....basically every health expert says masks work. Not a failsafe but it does help. Whose trying to control who? It’s a pandemic. Do you think any of us want to wear a mask? No, but if it helps people from not getting sick and slows the spread, then who cares.

In Mississippi, Governor Tate Reeves doesn't even require a mask once you are seated in your socially distant seat at the games.

Makes sense since ABC is PAC 12, Big 10, and Big 12.

Don’t bother trying to reason with an someone like this. They just drag you down to their level and then use their experience there as an advantage.

I meant to say the masks are NOT designed to stop a tiny virus from getting out. Every time I mention to people that the masks are designed to stop the aerosols, not a single virus floating in the air, people just pretend like they didn't hear it.

Masks not working and someone not understanding how masks do work is not the same thing.

It's entirely up to the Shelby County Health Department. They set up "trip wires" that trigger the 12 foot rule. Here's what has to happen to go back to 6.

- New cases over a 1-week period averaging less than 75 per day based upon date of testing
- Continued downward trend line for 2 consecutive weeks
- Rate of new cases decreasing by >= 30% per week over 4 consecutive weeks
- Reproductive Rate <= 1.0
- Positivity Rate <= 5%

Quote:Outdoor sporting events that involve the likelihood that visitors will engage in increased vocalization, such as yelling, cheering, singing, or speaking loudly, must be separated at least 12 feet apart and must wear face coverings consistent with the Face Mask Directive. Family units/groups of up to six people may sit together, but no member of one group can be within 12 feet of any member of another group.

We'd do better having all of them removed from their positions that waiting until those guidelines are met.

We have not met those conditions since this whole thing started and they began publishing numbers.

I agree. It's unattainable. They need to relax those requirements.

No one seems to understand Farr's law. Oh well, I wouldn't expect modern day students of academia to actually know anything.

But the question is - what is so magical about Friday afternoon for communication?

As expected, you asked for scientific studies... then when given you pretend like it's not there. Why ask if you're not going to be honest about it?
