Mt rushmore
Let's get our minds off the craziness of reality by proposing if there was a mount Rushmore for odu athletes who would be the four that should be on there. I would go lieberman donovan heineke gattison. How about you guys?

Blake. Blake. Blake. Blake.
Seriously, I'm in agreement with you, but perhaps Mark West instead of Gattison? Tough choice there...

My personal one, not based solely on athletic performance, would be Penichero, Hodge, Heineke, Verlander. Seems crazy to leave off Donovan and Lieberman though. I think womens bball needs its own Mt Rushmore. Lieberman, Penichero, Donovan, Machanguana.

RE: Mt rushmore
Anders never competed for ODU, so that would prevent her from being on a Mount Rushmore with former ODU athletes.
Verlander's stats at ODU were very Jekyll/Hyde. He had some ferocious strikeout numbers, but his three-year record was 21-18. His ERA in an aluminum bat college system were amazing, but they also were higher and higher every year. He played for some abysmal teams, he hardly got any run support in the Guzzo era, unfortunately. As a major leaguer, sure, he's one of our greatest alums, but when he was here, nothing there statistically or leading the team to the postseason or deep runs or a conference championship might knock him off my list.
I think it's mainly going to be female athletes and TH.
Lieberman without a doubt. The glue. The leader. The Icon. Great supporting cast, but without Nancy, ODU isn't ODU.
Penichiero also without a doubt. She was the catalyst that brought the program back to national prominence. She had an amazing supporting cast with Clarisse, Nyree and Mery (to name a few).
After that, I'm inclined to go with Marina DiGiacomo. Might be the best field hockey player in her time on the planet. ODU Field Hockey games were a treat when she was on campus. Mesmerizing with the stickwork. Like Tichia, she was part of a resurrection of sorts with the program. It was still riding high when she was here, but the last national championship was in 2000. She was a big part of that.
Then Heinicke. Payton Award, Playoff Runs, the guy FB was built around once he made his debut. That's my Rushmore.

9 National Championships. Anders belongs. May not have competed at ODU, but she is as ODU as anyone who played. She was sought out as a coach but never left until Wood drove her away. Anders belongs.

Personally Heinicke has my vote and is the only person mentioned so far that we watched play in person. That kid made the program entertaining and relevant so much so that me and my family made multiple trips from NY and GA to the Hampton Roads. What makes him extra special for us is that he is a kid from my neighborhood that went to the HS down the road. Heinicke all the way.

I thought this is about the players and coaches that studied at ODU if not Beth is definitely up there in the list with 9 NCs and its not like rest of the time we didn't compete either. We were going head-on vs MD and NC most of the time when she was here and almost snatched a handful of times. She along with Lieberman are my favorite ODU female athletes/coaches that i never saw play in person.

wildman. OT... I don't dabble on twitter but a buddy told me about some of your recent tweets regarding the AD to consultant emails. Do you have a podcast or article out/ coming out about what you have uncovered?

RE: Mt rushmore
Drew Hareza Baha He rightfully deserves to be etched on the side of a mountain! If it weren't for his leg helping us total 18 of our 36 points vs Chowan we'd of lost and our program could be looking differently right now. If he doesn't make the 5 field goals and 3 extra points does the crowd come back, does the young team deflate over their first loss, do we go 9-2 on the season? If you look at Hareza career after our first game it's not good. 3 out of 11 field goals and to know now his best game ever was our first victory.
The foundation of our program was built that evening with his leg.

Come on man! I'm trying to name players who everyone else has forgotten! Another one is Marquel Thomas, he has the record for the first ODU touchdown, it was 50+ yarder from DeMarco. Also is the only player to have played in our first game vs Chowan and in our first FBS win over Idaho.

The OP specified athletes for ODU, so I stuck with athletes for ODU.
