Odd timing to enter the transfer portal (Tyrae Thornton)
Seems like most schools that still hope to play this fall would be at or near the 85 scholarship with camps already (or close to being) underway.

This is so wierd. He has zero chance of being picked up or even playing this year unless a school (or agent) is actively recruiting him under the table which would be against NCAA rules.

He's not the only player recently in the portal. Washington State had a safety also go in yesterday. For a player opting out of the season over COVID, I don't think it would be different unless it impacts scholarship access this semester. Going in now let's you start talking to coaches sooner while they're still early in the recruiting cycle.

Amen.

I've got enough problems running mine without worrying about his.

Does this mean that TyRae's coming back to Rice?

Saw a tweet from Chris Hummer that said that Thornton had withdrawn his name from the portal.

I see an Aug. 31 Hummer tweet saying "Thornton has withdrawn his name from the portal, per a source. Huge for Rice to get him back."

And one on Saturday evening (Sept. 5) saying: "Thornton is back in the portal again, per a source."
